Wearhead is a village in Durham, England. It is named after the nearby source of the River Wear which runs eastwards for approx 40 miles to Sunderland. In addition, the village has a selection of pubs, restaurants, an art gallery, outdoor swimming pool and pleasant riverside walks. Durham has a castle, which was originally built in the 11th century as a projection of the Norman power in Northern England. It is an excellent example of the early motte and bailey castles favoured by the Normans.

"Cottage in Wearhead, easy to find with lots of attractions within a short drive. This is a lovely house; we had a short break staying here and found it very comfortable. It had everything we needed and more than we expected; lovely to find plenty of books, DVDs and videos for almost any taste. The area is so beautiful and has so much to offer - we are familiar with it after many day visits since I was young - but staying in situ allowed us longer at each place of interest. You have to visit Killhope Lead Mining Museum from here (only a 10-15 min drive), as well as the outdoor swimming pool at Stanhope; you are also within easy reach of the Lakes, and two heritage railways are less than a 30 min drive away."
