"Located 20 m from a busy main road where vehicles can reach motorway speeds . Concerned for safety of my dog in case it got out . Lakes Holiday Cottages manage the cottage and make no mention of the road noise issue . When i contacted them to discuss the office manager (Sarah) was off rude and unprofessional . She suggested i should have looked at a map to check the location . My company will never use Lakes Holiday cottages again."

"Not too far from the M6 turn off the cottage was ideally positioned after a 4.5 hour drive, and great for when we needed to leave. Easy to find and with a great really dog friendly pub, The Windmill, a walk away. The cottage was clean and well presented. The kitchen provided everything we needed (apart from a bread knife) and the appliances were all easy to use. I would recommend a trip to Booths for stocking up the fridge located just as you enter into Windermere. The log burner in the living was such a treat and kicked out amazing heat, our little doggie loved lying in front of it after a day out walking and pub lunching. We would definitely return to Gilpins and hope to next year."

"we have just returned from our short break and was very happy with our stay at the gilpins. it is in a good locations, not far from windermere. we especially loved staveley and windermere. the cottage itself was ideal for the two of us but would not be big enough to accomadate more people. only setbacks for us was the noisy main road and the water was far too hot when we had a shower and was unable to turn the temperature down. we found the stairs a little dodgy as the stairs wind round slightly at the top and you have to be very careful with your footing. overall we were very pleased and would recommend to family and friends to stay here."

"We arrived at this cottage to find it dark cold and unclean, we reported to lakes cottages and they had to send a cleaner we waited around for approx an hour for him to clean appliances and vac a very covered in dog hair settee. There are some things not as discribed but I can live without them. There are lots of thing we were unhappy with but when the cleanliness is not right it is off putting. We came across other unclean items but we just wanted to get on with our holiday, so we stayed out as long as we could and ate out all the time. The response from lakes cottages on our return home was I was exaggerating and just wanted compensation, well to be honest yes, wouldn't you, he said if we had reported while still there it would be sorted, well I didn't feel I should have had to, it should have been done the first time correctly, but some thing didn't appear to have been cleaned for some time in my opinion."

"Just got back from a very chilled stay at this lovely quirky cottage. It has everything you need and was clean and welcoming. Having a great wood burning stove was just like home from home for us. All the item of furniture and accessories are all well chosen and are of good quality. We took our little jack Russell and he was very at home here. The pub at Ings just up the road is so friendly and happy to have the dog in too we walked up most nights for a drink or two. Don't be put off by the road it is easy enough to cross it's not a motorway as some people are making out. The area is lovely the people are very friendly and the cottage is charming, what more do you want. We would love to book it again next year, sorry to have to go home."

"We arrived the place looked nice, nice kitchen is all I can say. You can't use the dining room as its to small as sectioned away from the house its self. As for cleanliness, there was some dropped pills under the tv cabinet which is dangerous as we took our dog and if she had gotten a hold of them could have been dangerous, the sofa was covered in crumbs and dog hair from previous people staying there was a mouldy dog bone under the sofa, the fire was nice. The bathroom still had bottle rings on the windowsill from before the place was dirty and dusty the bed is not at all comfy so don't expect a good nights sleep with one pillow is all they allow you. There is also another room with two beds in it closed off and the garden is small so if your thinking your dog is safe there its not as our cleared the 2 foot wall and was off taking her self for a walk! So before I could enjoy my holiday I had to clean the place first! Overall I won't be coming back but as for the lakes they are beautiful and me and my better half will definitely be returning just not here."

"This is a lovely little cottage situated just outside the village of Staveley. We arrived to find the radiators on to ensure a warm welcome and trust me there was plenty of hot water, ( see previous review). The cottage is small but very well laid out with a nice living room, kitchen and dining room built on. It was spotlessly clean and the upstairs bathroom and bedrooms are very nice. It is in a small cul-de-sac off the main Kendal to Windermere road but you have a parking space in a secluded area behind the cottage and a small enclosed patio so it was no problem. I brought my little dog who was very safe in this contained garden. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone. The Watermill pub is very close and does lovely food and in Staveley village there is a fab modern Indian restaurant and takeaway."

"Traffic noise spoilt this holiday - forget a lie in. To get hot water and hot radiators we had to purchase fuel and keep the fire in. Water pump located in lounge very noisy. Mattress on bed needs renewing. Not possible to use dining room as it was too cold and the table too large. Light bulbs too weak. Best thing about this cottage was location to nearby excellent pub. Sadly we couldn't walk to it as road was too busy and noisy."

"Negatives - Main issue is that it is situated on what looks like a layby on the main road into Windermere so noisy through the night and a worry if the dog had gotten out. _ Part of the staircase does not have a rail so is not good for people with mobility problems which I have. - The bathroom had not been properly cleaned. - Only a two seater couch to sit on in living room so very cosy. - Only one electric socket by the kitchen units so you cant use the toaster and make tea at the same time Positives - - It is near Windermere and within walking distance of local pubs - The kitchen is modern and well equipped - It has lots of cupboard spaces and loads of coat hangers - The bedroom is spacious - It has wifi - The television gets a lot of channels (sky not just freeview) Overall would not stay again becaause just off the main road"
