Situated on the coast, across from Morecambe Bay is the small village of Aldingham. Local folklore says that the village was once a mile long and that many of the cottages were washed away. Aldingham also has a reputation as a smuggler's village, the perpetrators hiding brandy from France and tobacco from America within the church crypt. The village itself is close to Furness Abbey as well as the ancient market town of Ulverston, just five miles away. Ulverston boasts a street market every Thursday and Saturday, in addition to many festivals throughout the year. These include an amazing lantern procession in November and an atmospheric Dickensian weekend in early December. The town is also the birthplace of Stan Laurel, famous for his work with Oliver Hardy, and as such is home to the only museum dedicated to this double act in the world. With all the attractions of the Lake District National Park and the sandy beaches of the Furness Coast, this quiet and peaceful area has plenty to offer!

"This cottage is lovely; it is furnished to a very high standard; has amazing views; and is convenient for both Ulverston and Barrow in Furness. I would like to think that we were just unfortunate in our timing when it is in need of some TLC and maintenance. The toilet roll holder in the bathroom was loose on arrival and fell off completely after a couple of days; the handle on one of the wardrobe drawers was hanging off and, looking at the scratches on the woodwork, I would suggest had been for some time; the right hand seal on the dishwasher was loose and had to be re-seated before use. The cistern on one of the toilets would not stop filling which resulted in a constant trickle of water, we managed to find a position for the flush handle to sit which minimized the water flow and, "luckily" our friends had left so we used their bathroom. Also in our bathroom, the extractor fan did not work and, on the last morning the "string" of lights under the bath came loose. The biggest issue was the under floor heating which was so hot that we had to have the doors/ windows open just to make it bearable. In fairness when I reported the heating, an engineer was dispatched the next day and the problem was solved. If truth be told we should have got someone out to solve the toilet flush but, requiring a maintenance person twice in a 6 day stay is not a good average. If the maintenance was up to scratch I would have given this cottage 5 stars with no hesitation and am very keen to go again later in the year by which time I like to think it is up to the standard that it has the potential to be. As it stands, I would not recommend Primrose Cottage but if the simple repairs are carried out I would not hesitate, hence my rating below."

"Absolutely breath-taking views over looking the beach from the bedroom with very modern /stylish large windows that convert into a balcony (very impressive). Very Comfortable beds and large hot tub (the weather was about 25 degrees so we didn't use it). The cottage is great for places to walk, reflect and enjoy the beautiful views. We have stayed at few cottages and by far Primrose cottage is the best cottage with emaculate interior design and we would give it 10/10. We had the privilege to meet the owner (Gillian) and she is a very friendly, polite and hospitable woman. I highly recommend this beautiful 5*cottage and we will definitely be back :)"
