"Booked a cottage for New Year Weekend with Friends. The cottage was aptly named and was in a quiet village; not a sound apart from the odd car going past was heard (We were probably the ones causing a noise). Arrived on Friday Night; Cottage was lovely and warm when we came. Little things like a bottle of Prosecco and a pack of biscuits on the table in the kitchen gave that added little extra (I thought this was a lovely touch). Fresh flowers in a vase; It just looked so homely. We didn't have to worry about a thing; towels were provided, even a pint of milk was in the fridge for us. We stayed with another couple; we got the twin room. The beds for us were lovely; mattress very bouncy but you sank into it (heaven). Cottage was homely and cosy; sometimes it was a little too cosy but nothing that the windows being open didn't solve. We took the Pooch along with us and there was miles around for us to walk her. Forgot her bowls but didn't have to worry as there was 2 bowls for her there. Apart from going to High Force on Saturday afternoon and 2 trips to Morrisons, we didn't leave the cottage. If you are looking for a quiet retreat with friends or family that is dog friendly, I would recommend this Cottage and holidays at work permitting; we will be booking again!"

"This is a stunning little place, although little not being the operative word as this cottage is bigger than it looks. I think this might be one of the oldest buildings in the village. It has a lovely welcoming approach with small enclosed front garden, very dog friendly. On entering you immediately feel the comfort and quiet and the stillness is very calming. It is very well equipped and furniture and decor lovely. The provisions and 2 bunches of flowers were a kind and lovely touch. The kitchen is very spacious with everything in it you might need. This also houses a large table and 6 chairs. The front master bedroom is very spacious and has a romantic feel to it, maybe the romantic pink, it's lovely with its own shower room. This overlooks the front of the village and views beyond. The twin room at the back, again, is very well decorated with lovely calming teal blue colours and brilliant views. This has a family bathroom/over bath shower just at the top of the landing. The cottage is very well cared for and it is Immaculately clean and beds are very comfy!, There are no shops for supplies in the village but the town centre of Barnard castle is only a couple of miles away and you can get everything there. This has been a lovely place to relax in and it's very homely indeed. In fact I don't know why I'm telling you all this as I want to keep it to myself as I will definitely be returning "

"Deceptively large cottage very well presented, a good base for exploring moors and dales, and with a little more travel York and the coast, could also get to the lakes but we ran out of time. Much more to see and do, would definitely go back."

"We enjoyed our stay at Peace Cottage very much indeed. The cottage was of a very high standard without exception. Tastefully furnished and decorated with a high standard of equipment. Everything was provided down to the smallest detail. The area is perfect for days out with more places than you can fit into a week. Very varied attractions with museums, galleries and castles with attractive towns such as Barnard Castle and of course the city of Durham. All in all, everything for a perfect holiday and we would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to visit again sometime. The lovely quiet location was just ideal. Many thanks to the owners!"

"A very good relaxing cottage ideal to get away from it all. A good location for the local area plenty of walks to do,Barnade Castle close for shops if needed especially good for local produce. The cottage was comfortable with all the appliances you will need during your stay. The welcoming needs to be mentioned a very good and appreciated touch."

"What a gem! Clean, comfortable, and in a lovely peaceful village location overlooking small green. The cottage is spacious in all rooms, and although says sleeps 4, there is plenty of room for a cot in main bedroom. Decorated and furnished to a high standard. Large TV/DVD. Small front cottage garden with seating and BBQ. Very quiet and cosy to sit and have a BBQ and glass of wine. Plenty of parking space. Welcoming extras are lovely thought from the owner. My only gripe was walking to the fridge when cooking or making tea. In such a big kitchen it needed to be nearer the prep areas and cooker, instead of the washing machine! You do need a car if stopping at this property, although Barnard Castle is just a very short hop down the road. Lots of little individual shops in Barnard, a real mix (no big brands here). A Morrisons and Co-Op supermakets. Many of the local attractions cater very well for disabled visitors and children. Reasonably priced and everyone helpful and friendly. The Jersey Cow Hotel (just outside Barnard) is THE place for Sunday lunch. Book early..you have been warned!"

"By far one of the most enjoyable places I have stayed and renting a cottage gives you the freedom to come and go as you please. The cottage itself was indeed very homely, immaculately clean and provisions included absolutely everything. A credit to its owner. Ideal for anyone just wanting a peaceful break. It must be said though that a car was necessary although I did spot a bus stop, and there's no nearby pub but apart from that I cannot fault this cottage. If its quiet and quaint you're after this ticks all the boxes!. Bravo."
