"Wow what a week we've just had at Firbank Cottage, it couldn't have been better. Super property with everything you need to have a great time, sitting in the sun lounge or outside the garden is amazing. Castleton is lovely there is a well stocked Co-Op, smashing pubs and a train station which will take you to Whitby or Middlesbrough. We had some great walks across the moors which were stunning. A lovely lovely holiday and one which will last long in the memory. We will return :-)"

"If you are looking for a place away from it all to unwind and relax in a stunning country setting this is the place for you! Most people would suggest a car for this location however with a bit of gracious help we managed arrival by train and most travel by foot. It is a hearty uphill walk from the train station but we made it numerous times and I am a reasonably fit 60. The WiFi worked great...our cell coverage not so much. (Check out carriers in advance or better yet leave the cell phone behind.) The garden is gorgeous, the property is well maintained and delightfully decorated. The owners are as engaging or leave you to yourself, as you wish. This setting in the North Yorkshire moors is just steps away from the Eskdale trail and miles, and miles and miles of fine hikes. This would make a fine romatic getaway or a family vacation. I would not recommend for someone with the inability to climb stairs, irregardless of age. There is a wonderful attached sunroom which is lovely even on a rainy day. We had some stunning sunsets. The nearby pub had excellent food and the Cooperative market is about a mile away. You can take the train to any number of other delightful villages all the way out to Whitby which is a lovely seaside town. I had not been to this area before and quickly fell in love with its expansive landscapes, green vales and moody moors. If you like cities with hustle and bustle this may not be the place for you. I feel very fortunate that Miles and Suzie have shared their lovely home with us. The cottage is attached to the larger house yet there is complete privacy and no noise at all between the cottage and the main house. You have your own patio and outdoor space. There is ample parking and it is a quiet setting but not far from town. Lots of birds for bird watchers. If you go do put the North Yorkshire Moors Visitor Centre on your must see list. Located in nearby Danby. There is a well apointed gift shop, climbing wall and fun activities for the kids. A lovely art gallery and adjacent Tea Room. Their carrot cake was the best I have had anywhere. We were so busy we did not have time to watch the well stocked DVD library but did use the numerous hiking guides and maps. This is what a holiday should be about!"
