"We had a lovely family reunion weekend at Thorncliffe house. The house is beautiful.. it doesn't look much from the road, but don't let that fool you. It's a lovely big open airy space (6 adults in our party and felt like we had loads of room), lots of comfy seating in the living and dining rooms, beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms. In short there was everything we needed available in beautiful surroundings for a lovely break. The only downside was the weather (which is no-ones fault!).. typically we picked one of the stormy weekends at the end of February, so we weren't able to enjoy the beautiful garden, but it didn't stop us visiting Padley Gorge for a stomp (in the snow!), and into Bakewell for shopping and an amazing afternoon tea! And it meant coming back to a beautiful house to get warm and snuggly in. We would highly recommend this property for a stay. Thank you for a lovely weekend, from the Harmer family. Xx"

"This wonderfully equipped property was an ideal venue for a family get together as we were coming from Liverpool, Newcastle and Hertfordshire. Met by the hospitable and helpful owner Kate with cake and bottles (milk and wine) in hand we soon felt very at home due to the multitude of things provided. CD's, DVDs, books and leaflets, games for adults and children alike, there is even a small play area just up the field behind the property with slide, roundabout, rocking horse and swings. The amount of equipment in the kitchen is such that, on a weekend break as we were on, much was never used. Even though the Sunday of our stay the weather was pretty horrid and very wet, we had plenty to keep us occupied. The location between Bakewell and Matlock is ideal for those wanting to walk but also near to many attractions such as the Heights of Abraham and Crich Tramway Museum both of which we visited. It has certainly wetted our appetite for a return to the area in the future."

"Stayed in this stunning house with daughter and her family (7 in total from 5 to 68 years). Kate the host has thought of everything, house well equipped to a high standard, exceptional decor and far more storage in bedrooms than we've had anywhere in the past, house was spotless. Kate kindly left us flowers wine cake and milk etc. Its in a lovely location, near to Bakewell and Matlock, what a bonus at back of the house was a field with football goals and a little park which were ideal for the children aged 5, 6 and 10. When I booked this 6 months ago we were impressed with the large amount of 5 star reviews with lots of people saying it was one of the best properties they'd stayed in over many years or so which speaks for itself. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed staying in this property."

"We are a group of seven ladies who stayed here two years ago. We loved it so much we booked for a second visit and were not disappointed. We stayed three nights from 24th Nov. The house is spotless, modern and well equipped. It has lots of space with a cozy, home from home feel. Perfect location to visit Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and a superb Indian restaurant at the bottom of the hill. The Shalimar gets busy, so book before your trip. Thank you to Kate for her thoughtfulness, warm welcome and all-round friendliness."

"Thorncliffe House exceeded our expectations, this is the 7th year we have holidayed together as a family and this house is the best equipped we've ever stayed in. Kate has thought of absolutely everything and couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. My eldest son is a chef who owns and runs his own restaurant in Switzerland with his wife, they were both very impressed with the utensils and everything provided in the kitchen. Comfortable house, loads of space for everyone to relax, the field at the back was great for family games, I could go on and on abkut the positives for this house, the only 1 minor negative which is totally out of Kate's control and it is the bumpy road just before you arrive. That being said, it's so worth it and we can not wait to return and will recommend it to all our friends. Thank you Kate for all your kindness and your help. Heather"

Bedrooms are an excellent size and really lovely. House is really well equipped and something to keep everyone busy. Really good location and close enough to walk to several places, Chatsworth house being one of them that is really worth the visit."

"The location was ideal - we were spending 3 days at the Eroica Festival. Wonderful Bakewell was also very close and there was a lovely local pub with great food. The accommodation was perfect - great sized rooms, tastefully decorated, modern, peaceful, airy, very clean, new appliances and full of all the home comforts including games, DVDs and CDs. We could not fault our stay - I only wish we'd booked it for longer! Our hope is to return if we visit the area again. Thanks for being one of the reasons our visit to the Peaks was so successful and memorable xxx"

"A stunning and well kept property that was a delight to stay in. Kate and her family were very welcoming and gave great attention to detail and the upkeep of the house. The location was brilliant for visiting the Dales. The house had quality appliances, fittings and furnishings and everything one could need to make it feel like a home from home. When we encountered a small problem with the TV it was resolved within half an hour for which we were very grateful. It is one of the best houses we have ever stayed in and would highly recommend it. Many thanks Kate and Steve for your hospitality."

"We were a party of 6 adults (parents and 2 daughters with partners) and stayed 3 nights to celebrate a sixtieth and thirtieth birthday. We had a brilliant long weekend together in this beautiful, spacious and well equipped house in an excellent location for walking in the White Peak. The house was spotlessly clean with a spacious and well equipped kitchen, including an excellent separate wine/beer chiller. The dining area with patio doors onto the terrace was perfect and we had good weather to sit out on the terrace. With very generously sized bedrooms and a massive utility room, there was more than enough space to accommodate the 6 of us. Thanks also for the complimentary tea, coffee, milk, biscuits, bottle of wine and especially the prosecco to help the celebrations! Would definitely love to come back."

"We spent 3 wonderful days in this beautiful house to celebrate my parents' anniversary. It was a great home-from-home experience where you can find everything you need there: a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy living room with a selection of great books, DVD, wii player and many more, comfy bedrooms, beautiful backyard and glorious surrounding. You will witness Kate's fine taste in every corner at that house. the location is very great, there is football pitch and a playground behind the house and a beautiful footpath nearby. Don't miss Shalimar restaurant if you like indian food. I recommend also visiting Matlock Bath which 20 min away by car. There is a supermarket and a gas station 5 min away by car."

"We had the pleasure of using this home during my wedding. My family had traveled from the United States and we needed enough space for 8 adults and the comings and goings of my husband's family, bridal party, etc. Thorncliffe House was EXACTLY what we needed. Kate was very helpful through the rental process and met us at the home the day of to answer any questions and go over a few things. She even had a bottle of champagne for us as a congratulations gift! The house is impeccably kept and very roomy. The kitchen was well stocked with plates/glasses/pots/pans/etc. We just bought groceries and were set. The kitchen/dining room have great lighting and our hair and makeup girls were able to get all their gear in and comfortably get us all ready for the wedding. We didn't get around much because of all the activities but, it is located in a gorgeous area with beautiful views and we had no problem getting taxis to and from the house at any time. I do recommend you prebook them when possible especially on holiday weekends. All in all, we really couldn't have imagined better. It really was a home away from home."

"Thornton house was perfect for our 3 day stay in May. The house was exceptionally well equipped and suitably designed to cater for young children as well as adults. It was spacious and excellently maintained. Outside there is a good sized patio. Young children would need supervision in the back garden as it is above level of the house. However location was very good with a field and playground behind the house and a short walk down the hill to the steam train station. Worth a visit. We can also recommend the local Indian restaurant and the Heights of Abraham."

"A few friends and I rented this cottage as a base for a reunion. It was quite simply superb, as was Kate our host who went above and beyond her duties to make us comfortable. The 'cottage' itself was modern, hugely spacious with high quality furniture and facilities, it was also spotlessly clean. The kitchen contained everything you could think of and the table was super large- making for a very sociable stay. The bedrooms were also all of a very high standard, from space to furnishings. The quality and design of the en-suite was also real treat. Location wise- it is near shops, restaurants and the train station but a car will definitely work in your favour here! There is a huge garden for kids to play with chairs and a table. Beyond the garden are beautiful views, a large green and a small playground. Chatsworth House is just 4 miles away. All in all this place is a little gem for a perfect getaway. I'll be booking again in the future :) Oh and parking (we had 3 cars between us) was also not a problem."

"This house exceeded our expectations. It's huge, easily accommodating our party of 5 adults and a 7 month old baby. Everything is brand new, modern, comfortable and super clean. It's great if you're staying with a baby as a high chair and cot are provided. The kitchen / diner area is great for entertaining as is the huge double oven. It's also very quiet, both inside and out. We loved it and will definitely return - much better than staying in the local hotels. "

"We had a lovely stay at Thorncliffe House, with our son and daughter and their families, 6 adults +3 babies/toddler. The owner, Kate, ensured we had everything we needed, even down to a variety of toys for our 2 year old granddaughter. The house was so clean, spacious and well equipped. We would highly recommend it and will be staying again. One quick warning though, the house is up an unmade stretch of road so take care with old cars!"

The massive kitchen / dining room has everything you would need for a comfortable self catering stay. The through lounge was well equipped with a TV, free view box, DVD, a Nintendo Wii console and a well stocked bookcase. "What a fabulous place to stay for Christmas and New Year. Nestled in the Derbyshire Dales on the edges of the Peak district. This home offers fantastic views across the valley. Easy access to Matlock and beyond. Walking distance to not one but three local pubs and an Indian restaurant. Being on a hill could have issues for the less ambulant. We were snowed in for almost two days but had plenty of supplies and brilliant neighbours who came round with candles on Boxing Day when there was a short power cut. They also lent us a spade to clear the drive. A marvelous slope at the back saw many families sledging for days. They very generously loaned sledges to the children in our party who were improvising with plastic bags. Definitely a community spirit even if we were only there 10 days. The house was better than it looks in the pictures, almost everything you could need in the kitchen. All finished off to a very high standard. Kate was there to meet us when we arrived and gave us early access as no one was moving out the day we arrived. I would definitely recommend this property."

"We struggled to find a cottage that had the space for three couples with two small children, however, in Thorncliffe, we found everything and more that we needed. The house is designed to a very high standard and the quality of the finish and equipment are equally impressive. It was spotlessly clean and there was nothing that we couldn't find. Situated in a lovely area with a great play park behind property that our two year old loved. The living area was ideal as the two year old could play in the living room while the adults sat around the dining table chatting. But the best thing about this property is the owner who went several extra miles to ensure our weekend was perfect, providing toys and travel cots that meant packing became quite a bit easier. We stay in roughly four/five cottages a year and this rates in the top three we have ever stayed in!"

The local area is beautiful with so much to see and do but actually we were happy to stay in the house as it was so homely! We cooked a roast dinner on the Sunday and had all the equipment and utensils needed which is unusual in a holiday home. The kitchen-diner is a lovely room for socialising. Beds and bathrooms were spotless with high quality bedding and towels. Only negative is we had to leave!"

Loads of small touches throughout that shows that thought and experience has been put into providing everything that a holiday home should have: Information leaflets, board games, AV equipment, fast Wi-fi, DVD selection, everything you could need in a kitchen etc etc. It had a homely yet spacious feel, private garage, playground/fields to the rear, it even had friendly neighbours. What a find, pictures do not do it justice and Kate was a wonderful host. Our family had a great stay everything we could have wanted from this holiday home. We will also be using trip advisor again it was smooth no hassle. Thorncliffe house is a real home from home everything you need for a perfect holiday. Although not much time was spent exploring the area (wedding celebrations) but what we did see added to the experience. "I wanted a house big enough for three generations to get together to celebrate my daughter's graduation from sheffield university (about 45mins away). The comfortable bedrooms and living rooms certainly met ours needs and Kate even got a pouffe for my father who had recently broken his foot which made his stay more comfortable. The house is well situated for visiting many tourist sites including Bakewell and Chatsworth House which are both within 20-30 mins away. We tried the church pub which was quiet and cheap for lunch. I would love to spend another week in the future and would recommend booking. Helen"

The kitchen is ideal for cooking family meals. The owner is very helpful and thoughtful. We were welcomed with toys for kids , and a bottle of wine. She responds immediately to messages. The area has many attractions for families, which can be enjoyed irrespective of the weather. The house has poor mobile reception but compensated by WIFI access via a password. We had our groceries delivered by local tesco. Would recommend unreservedly. We loved the open plan kitchen/diner and enjoyed social meals around the large table. Kate was a friendly, thoughtful host who had left the children some toys to play with and a bottle of wine for the adults. Kate was quick to reply to all my queries before our stay and was more than happy to be contacted during our visit. Couldn't ask for anything more! There was plenty to do in the area and our friend's two year old enjoyed the steam railway. Thanks so much Kate!"

"The house was spacious, with everything that could possible be required for a large family . Everything was of the highest standard, and all so beautifully clean. The personal touches, such the welcome pack and the the toys for the children were much appreciated. The house is well situated, with plenty to do in the local area. One of the best holiday rentals we have stayed in and we would certainly return."

"Kate was very friendly & quick to answer queries etc before, during & after our stay - we could not have asked more from her! She even left toys out for the 4 kids in our group The house is amazing - a real pleasure to stay in & loads of really flexible space. It has a really luxurious feel about it - but not in a way that makes you scared to use stuff! The playground & playing field behind the house are little gems & all the neighbours are really friendly too. We had an amazing stay & especially enjoyed the peak railway & walks in the woods behind the house. Thank you again Kate!"

"I would highly recommend this house. We stayed here for 4 nights in the Easter holidays - 2 families with 4 children under 6. Kate had gone to the trouble of organising age & gender appropriate toys, we didn't need our own! The rooms are beautifully decorated and the house is immaculate. We enjoyed the afternoon sun in the garden and dinners at the large dining table. Children enjoyed the freedom of the playground on the back field, that we could thankfully not hear or see! We took a trip on the steam railway, just 5 minutes drive away, enjoyed Matlock & Matlock Bath as well as local walks. A lovely peaceful location with horses across the way. Thank you so much Kate for all your effort."

"We chose this house because of the room throughout as we were travelling with another family and needed accommodation for 7. The reasonable price drew us as well! When we arrived, we were amazed at the standard and finish of the property. The accommodation was beyond anything we expected. We thought it looked lovely in the photographs, but they really don't do it justice. Definitely hope to stay again next year and have been telling all our friends and family."

"Our 3 night stay was something of a last minute booking and to be honest Darley Dale wouldn't have been our first choice but we were quite taken with the description and the photographs of Thorncliffe House. In reality the photos don't do the property justice! Everything is so well maintained and presented it is quite simply stunning - it is with doubt the nicest holiday home we have ever stayed in. So with a beautiful house to be in and free wifi - we hardly wanted to explore Matlock at all - but we did and as it happens Darley Dale makes for a great base only a couple of miles from Matlock and Matlock Bath. Kate and Steve are excellent hosts, with warm a friendly greeting and always available if needed. The owners are perfect is so far as if you need them they will be there but once you are settled in you will be left to enjoy their fabulous house - with a complimentary welcome pack of tea and milk and biscuits and yum yum a bottle of wine too!! They really did think of everything (even the leaflets of the local restaurants have hand written directions on! How cool is that?) I think the most telling thing for me is this very review - the amount of things I've bought off Amazon and the like where I could have left a review and never have (simply couldn't be bothered!) but with this incredible house and lovely owners I feel compelled to comment and for two reasons really firstly I genuinely hope the house is a huge success for Kate and Steve and secondly dear fellow travellers for your benefit because you won't find better accommodation at twice the price and know you know,"

"We spent 4 nights (Monday - Friday) with 2 children. The layout and decor of the house can only be described as stunning!! The quality of the furnishings is of an excellent standard (if this is your rental home Kate, I'd love to see your own home - it must be amazing!!). The photos on the website is what sold it to us and we were not disappointed. Due to the time of year we didn't spend any time in the garden but even looking out through the large patio doors whilst having breakfast was a joy. The kitchen has every utensil and feature that you need, even more than we have at home. Our teenage son was well catered for with the wifi and wide selection of TV channels, whilst our young daughter loved having her own dressing table in the twin bedroom. The location is ideal and although we were out every day, there is so much to see and do that it will definitely require a return visit. A visit to Bakewell, The Heights of Abraham and Alton Towers are all within easy reach to name a few of the places we visited. When we plan a return visit to The Peak District this is will be our 1st choice and right it now it can't come quick enough. Thank you for the warm welcome Kate and hope to see you again in the not too distant future."

"We spent three days at this property, for a family reunion. It is a superb property situated perfectly to explore the beautiful Derbyshire area. The property itself is beautifully decorated and furnished. The kitchen is superbly equipped with top quality appliances. We received fresh flowers and wine and a very warm welcome from the owners. I would thoroughly recommend this property, we had a wonderful weekend and would most definitely return."

"Our group of two families with small children (3 under the age of 3) stayed at Thorncliffe House for the weekend. The house is great. Really stylishly decorated and furnished (with solid wood furniture - no Ikea here). Plenty of space for the kids with the large lounge and open-plan kitchen/diner area. Decent size garden, although you have to keep an eye on the kids due to it being raised from the patio area. The bedrooms are nicely laid out, the kitchen is well-equipped. The whole place has been newly refurbished to a high standard. The house is situated in Darley Dale and is not far from Matlock. There is plenty to do in the area. In short, we would really recommend the house to anyone wanting to stay in the area."
