The picturesque hamlet of Santon Bridge sits in an area of Cumbria that is relatively undiscovered by tourists and has remained unspoilt as a result. The horizon surrounding Stanton consists of stunning views of various mountains, including Great Gable, Hard Knott, Muncaster Fell, Harter Fell and England's highest peak, Scafell. The village itself is very small and tranquil, consisting of a few farm buildings, a number of cottages and a local pub, which serves excellent food to locals and visitors alike. In addition to the walks and cycle-trails in the area, there are many local attractions to enjoy, such as the World Owl Centre, Muncaster Castle and Wastwater, the deepest lake in the UK. To take in the scenery, but without the effort, there is a miniature railway that leads from Ravenglass to Eskdale; a truly stunning journey in which to soak up the splendour of the region.

"We have just spent four wonderful days in this cottage. The communication was easy, excellent value, the house was very well appointed with everything required available in the kitchen. A lovely cosy front room, a wood burner and a lovely bedroom, in a peaceful area perfect for exploring the area. It has under floor heating which was very efficient and lastly a great pub just round the corner."

"Very nice cottage, heating worked brilliantly, very welcome in a windy wet November. Fast and reliable wifi. Cosy for 2, would have been a bit tight with any more. A few blown lightbulbs but that's the only gripe."

"Great Location Location, location, location. This cottage sits on the road to Wasdale and near to the road to Eskdale. These are generally quiet roads in the less touristy west of the Lake District. Santon Bridge is a hamlet a pub and tea rooms and little else. It is in beautiful countryside. There is easy access to Eskdale, Ravenglass and Wasdale. You can walk to the fells from the cottage, although it is a long walk it is worth the effort. The Old Post Office cottage sits next to a campsite, but do not let this put you off. We were there for the last weekend of the Whitsun half term. The campsite was very busy and yet we unaffected by any noise from it. The cottage is also a hundred or so metres from the pub, which did decent food and even take away fish and chips and pizza. The cottage was small. Ideal for the two of us. There is a second bedroom in the attic space, with a single bed and a pullout matress under. This which would suit a third adult, additional couple or older children. I'd be wary of putting younger children up there as it was on a mezzanine level with no door and direct access to the stairs. It's a bright and airy space with Velux windows. The shower was fine with plenty of hot water, although I would have loved a bath after the long walks we took. The kitchen was small, but perfectly adequate and very well equipped. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine. The lounge had a big leather sofa and chair both of which we found ourselves sliding down during the night. The table was very small and awkward: not really a dining table as there was no where to put you legs when eating. It's a small criticism in an otherwise really nice cottage. The cottage also had a garden to the front with a table and chairs. We didn't get to use this due to the weather (hey! it is the Lake District!) I have to mention a few negatives. Several light bulbs had blown and there were no replacements. In a cottage of this price I'd expect that to be checked and dealt with. We lost internet connection early in our stay and had no telephone so we couldn't report it. I didn't mind too much; I didn't come for the internet. Also there is a shared Sky box. This was a bonus. Until it failed and left us without any television. It comes highly recommended as a base for any couple who would like to explore the stunning Western Lake District."

"We arrived at 3am to find the fire lit for us, a lovely warm welcome in a beautifully decorated cottage. The owners of the campsite are so friendly, and it's a lovely quiet site. We stayed for a week with our two children 8 and 6, and they loved the cottage and also George the dog! It was spotlessly clean everywhere and really well equipped in the kitchen. Underfloor heating throughout was wonderful. The Pub next door was fantastic as were the Tea Rooms nearby. We had some lovely walks, 6miles partly along Wastwater which was mainly flat, and 6miles up over irton fell-ending at the Tea Rooms. The Ravenglass railway was great for kids with a beautiful walk upto a waterfall at the end. You could prebook to take bikes and then cycle back down beside the track which we would do next time. We are booking a week next year!"

"Excellent position for exploring Wastwater and Ennerdale/Eskdale,lovely cottage but it is showing some need of TLC,some mouldy mastic in shower area, blown light bulbs and peeling plaster in the corner of the bedroom,no egg cups and no glasses for drinking water etc (only wine glasses),minor problems that stop this property from being fantastic,The owner was very friendly but perhaps a little laidback when work required on the cottage. The lack of wi-fi is a pain but I was able to go outside to campsite entrance and pick up wi-fi there, but this wouldn't be feasible in the rain.We really enjoyed our week and the minor problems with the cottage wouldn't stop us using it again"

"Wonderful cottage. Renovated about four years ago to a very good standard. How ever, now showing some signs of needing a bit of t l c, i.e Mouldy mastic, peeling plaster and blown light bulbs. And most importantly, no wi-fi in the cottage."

"This cottage is brilliant for a couple, scenic location, beautifully renovated, clean and well equipped, plus there is a great pub within a couple of minutes walk and local tea rooms where you can get an amazing breakfast. We had a wonderful stay here, there are great walks from the doorstep and nearby, it is less touristy than the eastern lakes however the scenery is incredible especially Wasdale and Eskdale. St Bees head with its lovely coastal walk is also within easy reach."

"The Old Post Office has been renovated to a very high standard and decorated beautifully throughout. It is also practical, for instance it has washer dryer and a heated cupboard in which to hang your waterproofs. It is like going on holiday to your best friend's home. The location is perfect to explore the mountains around Wastwater. The grounds of the campsite run alongside the river Irt so we were able to spend a tranquil morning in the sunshine beside the river, literally a stones throw from our front door. The Santon Bridge Inn is one minutes walk away for delicious food, and a gift shop and tea room five minutes walk away. The coast is a six mile drive along beautiful country lanes, and a well stocked local store in Gosforth provides everything you need at a good price. Tips: The children's bedroom is on a mezzanine in what was the roof space, and as such there is no door so take a child gate to put up to keep them safe. There is also no blind on the velux windows up there which was no problem for our two but you may want to take two travel blackout blinds."
