Kintyre Cottage

Rated 4/50 by on 13th July 2019

"Kintyre cottage is a home from home situated in the lovely area of the Scottish Borders. It is just the right size for a couple and has a lounge, double bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The bed is extremely comfortable which is very important to us. And it is nice to be able to have the choice of a bath or shower after a day out exploring the Borders. The lounge has some very comfortable chairs - again just what you want to relax in during the evening. The kitchen has all the amenities you could need except for a washing machine. I accept that the kitchen isn't very big but there is a dishwasher in there - a bit if a poor do if 2 people can't wash up their own pots! A washing machine in place of the dishwasher would have been much more useful so dirty clothes after a day's walking could be cleaned. Not a big issue in the big scheme of things though and definitely wouldn't put me off going back. Be aware that if you are hot at night and open the bedroom window, there is a lot of traffic going up and down the road at stupid o'clock for a small village - can only assume they are farmers going to work. The surrounding area is also lovely. There is a walk along an old railway line next to the Broughton Brewery which takes you to Biggar. When we did the walk the sun was shining and there were many meadow flowers to admire - we also saw a hare, some baby goldfinches and a family of buzzards. Biggar is definitely worth a visit but our favourite towns were Peebles and Moffat - lots of independent shops to browse in and the odd few pubs where you can get a good pint of Belhaven Best. Also Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford and Neidpath Castle are interesting places to visit. In fact there are so many places to see you can't get bored - just be prepared to drive to them. The only place we were disappointed with was Glasgow -probably because the whole city seemed to be a building site when we went and the museum we particularly wanted to go in was shut for the day! All in all a fantastic holiday made even more special because of the lovely accommodation."
