The charming village of Hollington is in the south of the Peak District, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It is a collection of traditional cottages and farmhouses surrounded by rolling countryside and offers a number of hostelries that serve fine food and ales. Nearby is the lovely town of Ashbourne, home to some wonderful examples of Georgian architecture and interesting cobbled streets and alleyways, Ashbourne itself has a good selection of restaurants and a variety of shops, including a number of antique stores. The Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and have many outdoor pursuits on offer including walking and cycling, but for a different kind of excitement Alton Towers is a 25 minute drive away. A great holiday spot.

"The girls and I have just returned from a 2 night break at the Mews where we had an amazing, relaxing time. The house was clean and tidy, with stunning decor and the new hot tub was super! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and made the most of all the amenities the cottage had on offer. Philippa met us on arrival and was very accommodating. She gave us lots of local information to ensure we could make the most of our weekend. We have recommended The Mews to our friends and will hopefully be back ourselves next year."

"We have spend two nights at The Mews for a birthday celebration. The cottage is simply stunning inside and out , with luxurious home comforts in a beautiful countryside setting. Highlights include the stand out fire place , bath tube and not forgetting the spacious hot tub. Hosts were friendly and welcoming and there if we needed any assistance. Beds are comfortable and there is plenty of room for maximum guests. Would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing few days if you are looking for something a little bit special and luxurious."

"Just returned from a 3 night break at the Mews, a family get together for my husband's 60th birthday. It was like a home from home, had everything that you need. Place spotlessly clean, comfy beds, lovely setting with the added bonus of the hot tub which was great Philippa met us on arrival, very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return."

"What can I say........ absolutely stunning, Phillipa was there to meet us with fresh eggs and cakes. Immaculate and cosy stay, everything you could want is in the property, with a lovely hot tub after a day out, also to open the back door to the field with the pet sheep! especially LARRY! ps. they love a digestive biscuit. Then be greeted by Natasha the Cat partial to a bit of bacon!. Warm and cosy stay, pub 6 min walk, food was excellent. Definitely will return without a doubt and didn't want to leave."

"A gorgeous weekend getaway celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary! 8 of us (3 children 5adults) just spent a long weekend at The Mews and it was a real home from home, we had a great time. Lovely home made scones and jam on arrival, and a gorgeous hot tub to relax in. Views over the fields and the pleasure of meeting a new born lamb. Would recommend. Everything was lovely "

"Have just stayed at the Mews for the third time with a group of girlfriends and the place just gets better. Everything you need is here - you just need to turn up and relax. The place is beautifully decorated, is clean, and has everything you need to enjoy your holiday - so nothing to stress about! The owners, Phillipa and Jules are just the loveliest people, and nothing is too much trouble for them. We love the Mews for a girly getaway and get to chill in the hot tub which is just brilliant! I can't recommend the place enough - and they also have two other properties which are perfect for a smaller gathering. Go and see them - you won't be disappointed. :)"

"From the moment we arrived, the Mews lived up to expectations. Phillipa, the host, made sure we had everything we needed and left us to get on with our weekend. Champagne in the hot tub to see in the New Year, local pub for meals - all brilliant. The cottage was well equipped and everything worked. The fires and heating kept us cosy when we got back from walks in the Peaks (Dovedale is only 20 minutes away in the car). Will certainly consider booking again - you should too!"

"Just returned from midweek break at The Mews. (Family get together ) Totally agree with previous reviews... Best cottage we have ever stayed in. Everything was so well thought out ... Simple things that make the difference.... Large kettle ,teapot & toaster made breakfast hassle free. Numerous pots & pans & crockery. Plenty of literature on local surroundings, games & cards for rainy days, although we had great weather. Plastic cups for the hot tub & a lovely welcoming gift of fresh farm eggs, jug of milk & home made cake. We visited the Red Lion one evening & were given a friendly welcome so of course we had to go again on pie night. Can't wait to return to the mews & the red lion. "

"I booked the Mews for a girls weekend away, with the hot tub being our main lure! And we were not disappointed! The hot tub comfortably fitted all 7 of us. The cottage is beautifully decorated and so homely. The photographs really do not do it justice- it's much bigger than I expected. We are all already considering booking our next trip with husbands and partners. Simply can't fault it. Brilliant!"

"beautiful property! The photos do not really do it justice. Well equipped and in a picturesque setting. We loved the hot tub with its lovely outlook. The owners Phillipa and Julian could really not have been more hospitable or helpful during our stay. The local pub,The Red Lion, which is 10 mins walk away serves good food and is very friendly. A slightly longer stroll takes you to the Saracens Head which is a gastropub well worth a visit. Close by,Ashbourne is a nice market town with some great shops and cafes. We will definitely return!"

"Home from home ~ I wish my home was like The Mews or The Retreat which we also rented for our group. Beautifully finished accommodation, a kitchen with everything we needed, a lovely lounge, nice bedrooms with comfortable beds, 2 with ensuite shower rooms & a lovely house bathroom. We loved the hot tub facing the field with the friendly sheep that were fairly interested in us humans especially if we had bread & gorgeous lambs frolicking about. One of our group was in a wheelchair & The Retreat was perfect all on one level. The weather was mixed, but the Sunday was sunny & warm, some of us went to nearby Alton Towers with the rest relaxing in the hot tub & on the back terrace. The Red Bull within walking distance is friendly with a good reasonable menu, they also have a good range in pies. The owners Philippa & Julian were lovely & very helpful :)"

"We've just come back from a weekend at The Mews and we absolutely loved it. Philippa and her family are the perfect hosts - they make you feel so welcome and then leave you to enjoy your time at the cottage. All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated and the hot tub is the perfect way to finish the day. The only regret is that we didn't stay longer ! We'll definitely be back and will recommend highly to family and friends. Sharon x"

"We recently stayed at the Mews in Hollington. Its was very easy to get to with a sat nav, making the journey there completely pleasant. When we walked into the cottage there was a real "wow" factor as the converted barn has a warm but open feeling as you walk in. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and general equipment, and there was a jug of milk left for us on entry and some yummy crumpets. We though the lounge area was lovely - a lovely room with seating and dining space for 8 people, although the dining table was in a slightly cramp position. There was a lovely feature fireplace with gas powered fire making the cottage have a very cozy feel. There are enough "real" beds for 6 people, 2 double and 1 twin, but there are also at least 3 temporary beds, leaving plenty of room for plenty of people. The upstairs double bed is a particularly lovely room. The hot tub is excellent - plenty of space for all of us to get in, and quite advance in terms of features with various levels of bubble settings. the hot tub is set on a lovely patio with a table for dining al fresco, and overlooking a lovely back yard filled with sheep and phesants. A great cottage for a quiet relaxing escape, not suitable for those looking for a bit of a party cottage, as there isn't a town to be seen within a 20min drive. Walking in the surround area is fairly flat, but there are (very muddy when we were there) bridle paths around. The cottage is on the edge of the beautiful peak district so you don't have to go far for a more adventurous and glorious countryside. Perfect for those looking to really relax for the weekend."

"We can't rate this beautiful property and our stay highly enough. This cottage had everything we needed and more besides. We stayed with our two young children (7 and 8) and had some friends and their two children stay as a surprise for husband's 40th. We catered mostly for ourselves as we are keen cooks and found the kitchen was fully stocked with all the kitchenalia we could need. The property was warm, clean, homely - just relaxing, especially with the hot tub. Phillipa, Julian and their family including the animals (a bonus for our children) were always so welcoming and we knew that if we had had any problems then they would have done everything they could to rectify this during our stay. They immediately felt more like friends of old than simply the property owners. Given that it is a barn conversion, the upstairs bedroom makes good use of the loft space but in doing so it does have a low bed - husband is 6'2", so long way down for him. This property is ideal for families or groups of friends looking for a great location and a real treat. Our children would especially like to thank Max, Flirty and Dave (the dogs), Archie (the cat) and Neil, Lulu and Dusty (the sheep) - apologies to those they have failed to mention. We are sure that any one else staying at this property will appreciate and respect the thought and effort that has gone into making this a holiday home rather than a holiday let."

"Visited The Mews for a weekend at the beginning of January with 7 of my friends for a cosy leaving do before I leave for australia in a couple of weeks. We chose this property due to the fact it had a hottub big enough for us all and we were not disappointed!! The pictures do not do it justice - it is such a pretty place - so clean and cosy and big without losing that imtimate feeling. We were very lucky with the weather - it was very mild & dry so we walked to the Red Lion on our first evening there - a very friendly, cosy local pub with proper pub grub at proper pub grub prices! We went for a walk around surrounding areas the next day and stopped at The Yew Tree for a nice refreshing drink on the way back. We took a drive into nearby ashbourne in the afternoon to replenish alcohol supplies and have some chips and a cream tea :) That evening was spent soley surrounding by bubbles - of the alchol variety in our glasses and in the water surrounding us - the definite highlight of the weekend!!! It was such a luxury and just made our stay that much better. Both mornings we enjoyed breakfast all together sat around the table and the lviing room was lovely and big enough for us all to sit comfortably on an evening. Have already recommended this property and would go again if I wasn't going away!Owner was also called Philippa (very unusual for me to come across another Philippa) and was very friendly & welcoming. We all loved every single second of our stay :)"

"As soon as we arrived felt at home we were met by the owners who are wonderful and can't do enough for you. The mews are breath taking no expense has been spared even feather quilts. The hot tub is amazing on an evening with glass of wine overlooked by a field of sheep of which Neil the sheep is very much in charge. He alone is worth the visit such a character. The pub down the road Red Lion is fantastic food well worth a visit. Overall wonderful place wonderful family who run it and of course the pets are fab. We will book again and bring all our friends."

"I can not rate this holiday let higher!! The property is fantastic and although the photos look amazing on the website, they really don't do the property justice!! We were greeted by the owner, who could not have been friendlier. This is the first property that we have rented that we felt at ease with the owner and could really relax and enjoy our stay! The owner could not have been more helpful and even let me have some paracetamol for a headache! (The nearest shop is a drive away and while this is probably a good thing, you do have to be organised?!!) My 4 year old daughter LOVED the animals, especially the sheep she befriended. We have had two outbursts of tears since our return (only yesterday!!) about not being able to go and feed and play with the sheep! I would definately would like to return for another break away and would definately recommend to others (in fact we have already!!)"

"We had a super stay at the Mews. The owners were friendly and approachable, happy for us to arrive before the usual check in time as it was available. The cottage was spotless, cosy and welcoming. The beds are extremely comfortable. There were some crumpets, butter, milk and jam laid out for our arrival, and other small touches like dishwasher tablets/washing powder. The hot tub was superb, especially in the evening with a glass of wine! We had 4 young children with us and this presented no problem, they loved feeding the sheep at the back of our property! My mum also rented the Retreat and it was of a similar high standard. Only minor problem was although the owner kindly lent us her code for internet access, we could only pick up a signal by standing near the front door. Probably not a major problem if you are on holiday but we did need to spend a fair amount of time online for work purposes. We look forward to returning next year for another family break!"

When the fridge freezer broke down it was replaced within 24 hours with no fuss. The hot tub was great and our hostess took great care maintaining it. An excellent cottage, spacious for the six of us and really well equipt. Highly recommended"

"Loved our stay in this cottage. It was beautifully decorated and the hot tub was a real bonus. The view at the back was a highlight - we would come back from a day out and either sit in the hot tub or sit with a cup of tea on the patio chairs and watch the sheep grazing in the fields. Very relaxing. The owners were very friendly. It was nice to arrive and find milk in the fridge and a cake on the side!! Lots to see and do - especially liked the National Trust properties of which there were many and the Crown Derby factory tour was a real treat."
