The village of Kilchoan is the most westerly village in mainland Britain, situated on the stunning Ardnamurchan Peninsula and surrounded by mountains and coastal views. The area close to Kilchoan offers a choice of beaches and an abundance of wildlife with eagles regularly spotted overhead. Until 1900 the village was only accessible by sea, but now access is via a single track road. The village has local services including a shop, pub, restaurant and community centre. From Mingary Pier there is a regular ferry service across the Sound of Mull to Tobermory which gives the opportunity to explore the islands of Mull and Iona.

"Booked via Sykes Cottages, this place is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It is remote and even the road from the Corran Ferry to the cottage takes about an hour and a half, most of it on single track roads with passing places, but when we went Mid September and the roads are quiet. The cottage is really nicely fitted out, with everything you need to make it a home away from home. Heating is ok but with the open fire in the lounge (firewood available from near neighbours) it is always toasty at night. 2 bathrooms downstairs, one with a bath and one with a shower - we showered and it is very good. Bed really comfortable in the bedrooms, 2 further singles upstairs, plenty of storage. Kitchen well equipped, take a steamer if you like your veg that way. Best thing about the place is the view though, you never tire of it, in the September light it changes so much and on some days it was glorious sunshine, others you couldn't even see Mull across the water, but very special. Wildlife wise, could see the odd seal popping up from time to time, saw some sea eagles and on a trip to Tobermory saw an otter in the harbour. Various other birds and stuff. All very nice, if you fancy a week away from everything, this is the place to go. Note - Walk to the ferry is about 2 miles I reckon, not "at the end of the road" although technically it is obviously, it makes it sound nearer than it is. However, it is no bother as it's pretty flat being coastal and mostly along the loch so amazing views all the way. Shops about a mile. Even does the lottery!!! Better shop in Tobermorey (Coop) for bread and cheaper provisions. Enjoy, we did."
