Gamehouse Cottage, NEWTON FERRERS

"It is a nice place to stay. The accommodation is good though I was a little dis-appointed. The accommodation is a single storey. Bellow the cottage are the owners accommodation so the view outside the lounge is down onto their back garden. Not a real problem but they do ask you not to open the windows, potentially dangerous with such a large drop. They do take dogs but the garden is not dog friendly. You are requested to keep your dogs on a lead in the garden. They can get out and if the get through some hedges it is a 20+ foot drop. The property is no smoking in the house and the grounds, so for you smokers, it's out to the lane. The toaster is a two slice toaster that cooks two thirds of a slice, needs updating. Be prepared for the narrow lanes. Saying all that, the coast path at the top of the lane is lovely for you walkers. It would be useful if the welcoming pack gave some indication of local places to visit. The Lord Revelstoke circular walk starting at Noss Mayo is great and of course Mothecombe beaches are only a few miles away. One of the beaches is dog friendly and at low tide just sandbanks across to the other side."

"In the description of this cottage, it says: "Spacious single-storey cottage. Smart and modern. ***Enclosed Garden**** .... Barbacue. Wood burning stove. Excellent coastal walking. In Newton Ferrers" This cottage was described as an enclosed garden. It was anything but enclosed. Our two little dogs could easily escape at the front of the garden! They escaped twice!! Also, the side and back of the garden also had small opportunities for escapologists. In the photographs, the garden plants, flowers and planting are adorable and garden is medium sized, but there needed for us to be satisfied completely proper netting and mesh all the way around the garden. The mesh that farmer's use and mesh that goes to the bottom on the ground and to the top of the fence line 1.2m. There is a large farm gate at the front of the property and that dogs can get loose. This gate has holes obviously and your dogs will escape. This property is situated also on a village road, so there was danger for our little ones 10 and 12 kg terrier cross rescue dogs, respectively. We were so upset that we had to used a camping spike in the garden. Luckily, we had the good sense to pack this and some 6m and 9m cables in our SUV.... This cottage is not detached. There was someone living directly below and to the side of us. There is a door just like in 4 star hotel that clearly links the two "flats" I distinctly heard somebody having a conversation and I thought it was in our so-called cottage. If you care about some privacy and heaven forbid get into a heated argument, you might want to think on about ... The cottage was however clean, tidy and reasonable presented. It is close to the cliffs and the sea alcoves in Devon. There is wonderful scenery, Membland is nice, Newton Ferrers is a nice seaside with narrow roads. Unfortunately, this cottage is *NOT* a pet friendly cottage as described from our point of view... *Disclosure: this review was originally provided first to the letting agency before I copied here several weeks later."
