"The Mrs and I wanted a weekend away from the daily grind and this cottage was just that. In a beautiful setting with lovely surroundings. A very well equipped cottage perfect for two people. Clean and tidy and the hot tub was fantastic. Perfect getaway to switch off and unwind. When I say switch off - I mean complete digital detox as there is no WiFi or phone signal. Just what the doctor ordered ! Loved the brownies by the way (on a plate ready to eat on arrival). And thanks for the non alcoholic drinks which was a really nice personal touch. "

"Excellent well equipped accommodation. Hot tub really good (even in the rain). Danielle and Trevor on hand if needed but never intrusive. Ideal area for exploring the Scottish Borders. We even drove to Kielder in Northumberland. All in all we had a very pleasant short break."

"We came here to run away for the weekend and just relax and what a great location for this. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful place and the owners were really welcoming. Loved the hot tub and the cottage, has everything you need and I really didn't want to go home. Great for walks around Hadrian's wall, Carlise and Gretna... so can chill out or go explore the local areas. You may struggle with mobile signal and there is no Wi-Fi... but to be honest it was great to be off radar for a few days Would definitely come back and totally have already recommended to our friends and family. Just want to apologies to owners on our departure - completely forgot to remove some items from the fridge :( head was in the clouds"

"We have just returned from simply the best week at Carwinley Mill Cottage. From the moment we arrived, the welcome could not have been warmer from Danielle, Trevor and the dogs! We arrived to a bottle of bubbly, fresh milk and home made chocolate brownies..mmm! The cottage is beautiful, superbly equipped and the hot tub just tops it! We must give a very special thank you to Danielle and Trevor for being the most wonderful hosts. Not only did they act as witnesses at our wedding in Gretna, but they took us there in their Range Rover, ribboned up just for us and also provided champagne on the way and then decorated the cottage with balloons and banners for our return after the wedding. They really did go the extra mile, and we will be returning for our anniversary if not before!! Thank you for a wonderful week! Kevin & Jo Jennings x"

"Although it's a few mile from the nearest town and to me not a well known place, this place is a great place for most people whether your someone who likes to go for walks or just wants to sit back and relax, it's the perfect getaway. Compact and cosy is the best way to explain it. From the day we arrived we felt like we were made very welcome from the hosts along with the 3 dogs who always came to greet you every day. They allow you to take a tour of their land, which is around 3 acres. A taxi service is also offered if you want to head to a pub from Trevor which is extremely generous. The thing that made this place great for me has to be the hot tub. I want one haha. Despite not having the weather and not being able to see the stars, it is just so relaxing no matter what the weather is and chill with a drink at whatever time you like. Research for activities to do is best done before you head there but Gretna is a decent place to go to if you have never been there before. To summarise, we really enjoyed our stay here and would happily return if we get the chance."

"We just wanted a few days away to unwind and chill out, this is the place to go for exactly that. It's a small cottage for 2 people it has a full equipped kitchen , bathroom, bedroom and living room, it's also got the added bonus of a hot tub to soak away your aches and pains . It is very private and quiet with only the noise of birdsong which was quite nice."

"me and my partner stayed here for a long weekend and absolutely loved it! The owners were lovely and couldn't do more to help whilst also leaving us to do our thing and enjoy our holiday. The cottage is beautiful and really cosy and not forgetting the hot tub which was absolutely amazing, it made the holiday!! It was a perfect little break in a stunning setting, just be prepared for a lot of walking if you dont have transport as the nearest shop is an hour walk away! other than that, perfect!"

"We were excited by the pictures on the website and the cottage totally lived up to expectations. The owners were there to greet us and show us around, and had provided bread, milk, homemade scones and bramble liqueur! At night time and after long walks around lakes and along Hadrian's wall, the hot tub umder the stars was perfect! We will happily go back again for the hideaway base!"

"Myself and partner spend 4 nights in this cottage. On arrival, the owners were there to greet us, and answer any questions. Then, showing us around the cottage, welcomed us with homemade liquors, bread, milk, teabags & sugar, a small thought, that went a long way. After our welcome, the owners were more than happy to help with bags and recommendations, one thing that made this place so special was the owners being on hand if we needed them, offering to take us out in there own car to a romantic restaurant to make sure we could have a good night and returned safe and sound. The cottage was beautiful, very homely and extremely clean, the hot tub was a definite bonus, but it wasnt the main feature, sitting in the lounge in front of the fire was so peaceful. My partner has also added that the sky+HD was brilliant, having the chance to watch football and relax was amazing. We will defiantly be returning to Carwinley, an added bonus for us, is its the place, we finally started our relationship, so Carwinley holds a special place in our hearts."

"Enjoyed staying at the cottage for our holiday, the hot tub was the perfect way to end a busy day's sightseeing in and around Cumbria. About an hour and a half's drive from the Lakes, and with zero phone signal, this was a great 'get away from it all' holiday."

"Really enjoyed staying at the cottage. We stayed for four days and will definitely be returning in the near future. It's a beautiful cottage and very peaceful, with loads of grounds to explore. The hot tub was the added bonus which we took advantage of every evening. We were warmly welcomed by the owners and their lovely dogs. Recommened this cottage to all our friends and family."

"I would recommend this cottage to everyone looking for a relaxing get away from normal everyday hectic life. The owners of the cottage are so lovely and helpfully they told us lots a great places to visit. There dogs also made us feel very welcomes with lots of cuddles and kisses. The cottage had everything you would ever think you would need. It was comfortable and so very clean you couldn't have asked for more. The out door hot tub was amazing so lovely and warm on chilly nights looking up at the stars. The cottage is about 3 miles from the local town, shops and pubs. So you really did feel you were alway from everything all you could hear was the birds singing in the trees and the water running down the stream near the cottage I absolutely loved the place and everything about it and can't wait to go back for another stay"

"We spent a very relaxing and peaceful week at Carwinley Mill Cottage and were made to feel very welcome on our arrival. The cottage is set in the beautiful grounds of the family home and it was the get away that we really needed, however I have to say that we were slightly disappointed that the description on the web site didn't live up to what we were expecting. Firstly we were left a loaf of bread, milk and scones and although this was very nice, it is advertised as a welcome pack of bread, milk and wine, we also noticed that visitors last year received this, however this year the wine had been replaced with scones! It also says on the website that there are bath robes and slippers, these were missing too. The cottage is cosy and clean but is in need of a lick of paint especially around the french doors leading out to the decked area as at the moment the doors are scuffed and look very shabby, the fungi growing on the side of the bath also needs removing. Around the 3.5 acres there are definitely some lovely area's to sit with either a book and a drink to unwind and enjoy the view, however on our visit they were in definite need of a clean up. We had to clean the furniture near the duck pond which didn't look like it had had a clean in many years and we wanted to sit on the millennium bench but decided not not to bother as we would of had to clean up all the remains of a firework display. All in all the owners were extremely friendly and we fell in love with their two dogs and got the well earned rest that we needed, it just needs a little TLC and providing what is offered on the website."

"What a beautiful cottage and location! We (a couple) spent a relaxing week here in March and loved every minute of it. The owners were very pleasant and left us to it, but we felt they were on hand if we had any enquiry. When we arrived they had left us bread, milk and some home made cheese scones which was a really nice touch. They have 2 really friendly dogs which we enjoyed fussing every day. The cottage itself is just lovely. Big windows, amazing kitchen. Homely and comfortable but everything was high quality. The hot tub really was the icing on the cake. The week we stayed was just before Easter, when the country had heavy snow so it was quite cold and windy, but that didnt stop us from being in the hot tub 3 times a day with our glasses of wine, in our woolly hats! The location is probably halfway between Gretna and Carlisle and we went to a different place every day. One day we got the train from Carlisle to Edinburgh, so there is plenty to do if you want it. The Bridge Inn pub just a couple of miles away does great home made food, particularly Sunday lunch. It's hard to beat. I'm sure anyone reading this can tell how much we enjoyed our stay at Carwinley Cottage. I would highly recommend it!!"

"We had a fabulous few days at this cottage, everyone was so friendly (including dogs). Getting a lift to the local pub and back was unexpected and much appreciated. The cottage is in a great location and with the hot tub on the decking it was a little bit of paradise - sitting in tub with glass of bubbly it dosen't get much better than that!"
