"After attempting to book a one night stay in Grasmere at a hotel for a birthday celebration, I opted for booking the Bakers Rest which was cheaper! Hotels in the area were requiring a 2 night stay. This is a 3 storey, spacious apartment with en suites in all 4 bedrooms. A lovely lounge which is pictured with double sofa's, wide screen TV, Wifi and dining table. Lovely modern kitchen with all the usual mod cons. Towels are provided and there are 2 car parking passes for the nearby garden centre car park. You can unload the car(s) at the door and then park up after. Fantastic location, right in the centre of the village. Would definitely go back."

"We had a really nice week: the cottage is lovely and surprisingly spacious so, whilst we were lucky with the weather, shouldn't feel too cramped if you end up stuck indoors. The location is idyllic, in a lovely little village with a few sights and amenities and some great walks on your doorstep, as well as easy driving distance from bigger towns and other parts of the Lakes. The parking situation has been discussed elsewhere: one car does need to be fairly small to manoeuvre into the garage but we were able to pick up an extra permit for the third car we had with us for a few days very easily."

"We enjoyed our long weekend at Bakers Rest, the cottage was a generous size with comfotable sitting and dining area. One complaint is the lack of towels and soap in the bathrooms. While we were aware of this beforehand, it seems unnecessary and stingy. Especially the lack of any hand towels or soap left us washing hands with washing up liquid and drying with a tea towel. Some of the group travelled by public transport and towels take up a lot of room in luggage. The shower fixings were really loose in both the main floor bathrooms, we were worried the shower head would fall off while in use. It would not take much for these things to be fixed. The location of the cottage cannot be faulted and overall we had a lovely weekend."

"Seven of us (including 2 children) stayed for over a week. First surprise was that it was all upstairs. However, good point was that all bedrooms where en suite. Big let down was the car parking spot at the rear of property. Very very small. Plus someone had parked in there anyway. It was difficult to locate property at first but that is the reality of the small complex nature of Grasmere. I hope they keep the small intimate feel of the village which is excellent. the children could look out the main window at the lambs and sheep playing in the field. Very quiet at night and could hear the church bells chiming in the distance. Lots of places to eat or drink. Brilliant location to go hill walking/rambling."

"We rented Bakers Rest for our family/wedding guests as we were getting married at The Wordsworth Hotel around the corner. The photos for this cottage do not do it justice. it was huge! We had 8 guests stay and there was plenty of space for everyone. No one could fault it! Close to all that Grasmere has to offer. Excellent value for money :)"

"The home was lovely, location fantastic, there were a few issues but the owner was around when we arrived to explain the problems that they had experienced and it did not cause us any major problems- we very much enjoyed our stay."

"Very nice, everything in order, just could you please inform prospective guests that there will not be towels available, I know many people might know this but for first timers it can prove a little problems, having said that if anyone is ever stuck in that situation, the pharmacy which is 2 minutes walk have towels, or you might be interested in travel towels sold in hiking/camping shops."

"Just had a superb weekend at this cottage. A well equipped kitchen which was roomy enough to host several cooks was just the start of it. 4 cracking en-suite bedrooms, all said the beds were very comfy, some even wanted to take them home! Nice sized living area and comfortable for the cottage at full capacity Will certainly try and stay there again. Could live there. Can't rate it highly enough!"

"Thank you for a truly great week. We really, really enjoyed staying in your holiday rental home. Things we liked: Great spacious home, quality of furnishings, cleanliness, information in the home of the local sites, views & village location was excellent - quiet but with fantastic restaurants literally 'on the doorstep'. Visit 'Potted Out','The Jumble Room','Tweedies Bar' & 'Sara's Bistro' all within 200 yards of the house & all fantastic selection & presentation of lunch & dinner treats! If I were to give any small details of advice to improve the home I would offer the following suggestions. Please note these are offered for 'perfecting' an already truly great place. 1. Improve the details on the directions as many will be arriving in the dark on a Friday evening after work so more accurate details would reduced the stress of finding the place - the car park name was wrong it's called 'Red Bank' and the garden centre is named 'Garden Village'. 2. I felt these basics would have been a good touch - sugar, tea bags, bin bags, foil, guest soaps, as we had to buy all these the following day after arrival. Other places we have stayed have these basics as standard. 3. We all found the quilts way to thick for the summer months. 4. Bulb in entrance hall not working and no spare in house very dark when arrived and we couldn't see where the steps were. 5. The door latches on the twin room in the loft and also it's bathroom were not working so limited privacy in that room. Other ideas to improve the guests experience 1. Either maps to borrow of walks from the house or a wall map in the house showing possible walks from the village. 2. A couple of tupperwares in the kitchen to use for a picnic would have been the icing on the cake! Just an idea!!! Ps Thanks for the two yorkshire puddings in the oven!!! Joking aside - this was one of the best places we have stayed in and would definitely go back again and again - if they would allow us after this!!!"

"We had an excellent time in Grasmere again this year. Baker's Rest is an excellent high class property in a very central location to the centre and some good walks. We travelled with two young children this year and the property acted as a great base of operations. It has excellent facilities. It is situated right next door to an excellent restaurant that we visited twice after arranging a local baby sitting service. We will definitely be back next year."

"We greatly enjoyed Bakers Rest and its location in the centre of Grasmere was fabulous for our visit. It makes a perfect central location for lots of walks and exploring without always having to use the car. Ambleside and Windermere are just a short drive away. Bakers rest is a comfortable holiday home for 8 people, is spacious and comfortably furnished, and we greatly enjoyed our stay. As for small improvements to enhance future stays: Towels please - the last thing you want to have to think about when packing for a stay away (you can tell, we forgot!) A small welcome pack/pint of milk in the fridge would be lovely PS. I do think the brochure ought to mention the very steep stairs to the upper floor, if you have less able members of the party. It puts 2 rooms out of bounds to some... But minor points, we thoroughly enjoyed it and would stay again."

"An excellent place to stay in central Grasmere close to the beautiful destination in the Lakes. Bakers Rest is comfortable and very well equipped. Grasmere is a quiet place with numerous coffee houses and places to eat. The Sunday Lunch @ Tweedies (next door but one to Bakers Rest) is a must! The apple Pie in ambleside makes the most amazing Bath Buns! A must! The Grasmere Gingerbread is to die for and only a 2 minute walk from Bakers Rest! :o) We all had a fabulous stay and will be back for sure. xx"

"My family really enjoyed our recent stay in Grasmere. This was mainly due to the brilliant cottage Bakers Rest.It was spacious, spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and so well placed for pubs, places to eat and really nice shops.Grasmere was a great base for the rest of Cumbria. We will definately book this cottage again, probably early next year, and would strongly recommend Bakers Rest for a great holiday."

"The bakers rest was inexcusably let down by being somewhat dirty - it appeared not to have been cleaned for some weeks. We were very dissappointed and put off having to clean thick dust of the dining table prior to eating. The toothbrush holder in the upstairs double room had dried and encrusted toothpaste 'left overs' from previous guests. The upstairs twin room had water leaking from the roof and running down the walls creating damp - not a pleasant sight. A shame as the cottage itself is lovely and a fantastic location. It just needs some TLC, basic maintenance and a very good clean."

"This is a very comfortable property with many luxury features in a convenient village location ideal for both those walking the fells or just pottering around Grasmere. We have stayed here several times and look forward to staying again."

"We have stayed here twice before and invited friends to join us as we know the area and the apartment is great. I was a little disappointed and surprised to see that a tap was broken in the upstairs double en-suite. Our friends agreed that it is the perfect size, well equipped and located holiday house but as the house sleeps 8, we also agreed that 2 car parking vouchers should be provided. The variation of walks from the apartment is excellent, there is plenty of room for 2 families with children and the decor is very relaxing and well suited to the building. We will definately stay again. Elsewhere we always rent a house, but we really like this let."

"Bakers rest surpassed all my expectations, it was really modern and comfortable, and had everything you could possibly need. It is in a great location only 30m from the pub and 100 m from the local shop. The only thing that let it down was that you were only given one car pass, so you have to pay in the local car park for 24hr parking, can get pricey for the week."

"Booking the property was simply carried out with a good service from staff. The property itself is furnished to a good overall standard and is well laid out. Being in the centre of Grasmere village it is very convenient to walk both to local shops and places to eat and drink. Tweedies bar is only a two minute walk and Sunday lunch there is not to be missed. The convenient location whether you want to sit back and relax or go walking in the area makes this an ideal property."

"The cottage was lovely and in a great location in the centre of the village. Parking was a problem tho - it was difficult to unload because of yellow lines and although we were promised a garage for one small car this proved impossible to access. Two parking permits would be useful. Lovely bedrooms, kitchen and lounge. All equipment you could need. Great views.Holiday slightly spoiled by the guests downstairs complaining about noise - at the time (about 8pm) we were eating our evening meal with no TV or music on so we felt a little aggrieved!"
