The traditional Welsh village of Tanygrisiau, meaning "below the steps'' is situated within reach of Blaenau Ffestiniog. The village stands amongst dramatic scenery, and Tanygrisiau is a good starting point for many walks, especially if your intention is to climb Moelwyn itself. Tanygrisiau railway station is on the famous Ffestiniog Railway, a narrow gauge railway built to carry slate from the mines down to the sea at Porthmadog; today it is a renowned tourist attraction providing stunning views on its trip to the coast.

"This cosy little cottage has everything. We stayed for 7 nights during September and even had decent weather for north Wales. The cottage is stylishly decorated and has everything you need for excellent holiday. The kitchen is simply stunning, with fantastic views of the mountains which made cooking our evening meal a real pleasure. The nescafe coffee machine was a lovely surprise too. The wood burner in the evening made it really cosy while watching netflix. Its a 2 minute walk to the stunning waterfall and excellent walks straight from the cottage up into the hills. If you have a clear night, be sure to check out the stars. One of the most star filled skies i've seen since I lived in Bolivia. The cottage is quite central and is near to all the attractions and places of interest, which is the main reason we chose to stay here. I've stayed in a few cottage around the UK and I have to say this was the nicest yet, which happened to make one of my best holidays in the UK. If i had to be slightly critical, I would say there isn't really anywhere to store bikes. I am a keen mountain biker and I didn't fancy leaving my expensive bike out in the garden, so it had to live with us in the dining area. We will be back"
