Situated on the beautiful Lake District Peninsula, the scattered hamlet of Pennington is set in an area of gentle hills and unspoiled countryside. The start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths are close by, as are the twin pubs at Great Urswick Tarn – locally renowned for their fine ales and good food. Nearby Ulverston is an ancient market town, which still holds a streetmarket every Thursday and Saturday. Today, this settlement is best known as a "festival town", with events throughout the year, and as the birthplace of Stan Laurel. As a result, it is now home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. Facilities there include a wide range of shops, pubs, and restaurants whilst all of the attractions of the National Park are within easy reach. Also close by is the Furness Coast, boasting sandy beaches and good birdwatching. Other attractions include the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Muncaster Castle.

"This Lodge has so many faults too many to list here cannot have the door open because unwanted feral cats kept on trying to get in lovely views"

"I was completely sold with the initial photos of Ash Lodge, and definitely not let down when my partner and I got there for a romantic week away. The lodge is a warm and cosy retreat, with its own private hot tub overlooking the hills and the sunset. The lodge has everything you need and more, even a nice bottle of wine waiting when we got there! There's no WiFi coverage but this really is not issue at all as the location lends itself to a welcome break away from it all. We did, however, get a phone signal and the Freeview and DVD player were handy for evening films. There's plenty to see nearby, including the John Barrow Monument, Furness Abbey and the Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre; which had some amazing veggie food and peaceful walks. This is just ideal for couples, thank you to the owners for a great and memorable stay and we'll definitely be back!"
