Foyers is a pretty highland village situated on the quiet eastern banks of Loch NessI The village itself boasts a village shop and post office along with a friendly cafe. Foyers is perhaps most famous for its spectacular 140ft waterfall known as the Falls of Foyers where the River Foyers drops into a gorge leading into Loch Ness. The road from Inverness into Foyers can be continued through the village and along this quieter side of the famous Loch and eventually you will arrive in the busier village of Fort Augustus which has some nice shops and restaurants.

Wendy's Place

"We stayed at Wendy's Place in October last year, but it's taken me until now to write this review (always a good sign in itself when places live long in the memory). The cottage was perfect from start to finish, top to bottom, front to back. Everything has been done with care and attention, and the quality of the decoration, furniture and equipment puts other places to shame. The kitchen is spacious, the living area very comfortable, cosy and warm (can't beat a wood-burning stove), the bathroom just what you need after a day's walking, and the bedroom was snug and warm. The whole place was spotless and the cleaner obviously does an excellent job. Very much a cottage but with modern standards and quality throughout. For example - the TV set-up - it all worked (this sounds trivial but the amount of cottages where there is some sort of fault or clunky issue with the set-up is, from experience, unbelievable); The Wifi signal was strong and reliable throughout the cottage. The welcome pack was a nice touch, and we were sad to have to return south after what seemed a very short time (always a good sign when your left wanting more!). The location on the edge of the village was just what we wanted - tranquil and peaceful, yet very much within the village. Handy parking space right by the cottage - easy to bring things in either through the front or back. The Falls of Foyers are just minutes away (very dramatic especially after heavy rain) and for fans of hydro-electricity, the nearby power-station was worth seeing (there's no visitor centre, but the buildings on the shores of Loch Ness are inspiring in themselves). Morag's crafty bothy is well worth a visit (from where the cups in the cottage hail) for a mid-walk brew and a cake. Going for a run on the first night, it was a surprise and a treat to come across a deer just yards from the back door - you really are in the heart of the Highlands, where everything is just bigger, grander and generally more impressive. Can't fault it - great price, and I'd really rather not review it to keep it a secret ;) What are you waiting for."

"We had a fantastic week staying in Wendy's Place. The accommodation was superb and of a very high standard- you will not be disappointed- the owners have thought of everything from logs for the wood burner to dish washer tablets to a welcome dram of whiskey and shortbread waiting on the table !! Perfect location too."
