Penfor

Rated 2/50 by on 23rd March 2019

"My wife and I together with our dog have just spent a week at Penfor. The cottage is in a superb location and the views from the windows are stunning. The cottage is really dog friendly and the gardens are secure enough for the dog to roam free. Although the weather wasn't particularly good, we still managed to get out each day and go for lovely walks. The layout of the cottage is great and each room has its own character. Having said that the cottage really does need some attention. It needs modernising, decorating throughout and deep cleaning. Because the cottage is booked up almost every week of the year it appears that only a cursory clean is done in between guests. The paintwork and some of the fixtures and fittings are yellow with age and should be replaced, particularly the studio radiator and main bedroom radiator and curtains that are not fitted properly. Wallpaper consists of old fashioned Anaglypta and painted lining paper which is peeling back from the walls in places. There is also mould on many parts of the walls and on the windows. The bathroom is functional, but that's all that can be said about it. The shower is worse than useless and grubby. There are no fitted smoke alarms in the property, which I would have thought was a legal requirement for safety and the heating system is totally inadequate for a stone cottage. The kitchen area is OK and there is everything you would need, however the oven and shelves and extractor fan are filthy with grease and do not look like they have ever been cleaned - we did not use it!! This is not a major complaint as we just dealt with things as we found them, but just genuine constructive criticism that I hope the owners and the booking agents take on board. During our stay, there was no contact at all from the owners."
