Surrounded by stunning countryside, the ancient village of Youlgreave winds its way along a narrow limestone shelf, situated between two of the area's loveliest valleys - Lathkill Dale to the north and Bradford Dale to the south. Once the centre of Derbyshire's lead-mining industry, this charming village now plays home to three pubs, all serving food, two shops (one with a Post Office) and a delightful medieval church.

"Going to start with a Thank You to the property owner for sharing their wonderful property with us. On arrival, the high standard is very apparent in both the initial appearance and decoration throughout. As you enjoy the cottage, the attention to detail becomes more apparent with equipment and services. The underfloor heating was very welcome as the snow fell outside in January. The kitchen has everything you require (with the Post Office & General Store a short walk up the road for supplies). Boot trays keep the floor tidy and a lovely touch of the 'Dog Box' again, is great for keeping your living area tidy. The cottage information folder contains all additional detail you require for the cottage and surrounding area. This includes advice on pre-booking tables at The Farmyard Inn if you require a meal at the pub, only a short walk up the road. Parking, pre-arrival advice on car size - small/medium fits in the allocated area fine (restricted parking around the village) we had a 4x4 which fitted with the assistance of front/rear parking sensors (use caution). And places/walks of interest. Sykes Cottages manage the property and have the finer details. Thanks again to the owner, we had a fantastic stay."

"We enjoyed an excellent week of walking from the cottage, part of the week with son and wife and 2 young grandchildren. The cottage was well equipped for all of us although the third bedroom is quite compact. There would have been space for a dog, along with dog cleaning and feeding kit, but we don't have one! The location is excellent with numerous walking options from the village without needing the car. There are 3 pubs in Youlgreave which all serve food, but we liked The Farmyard best, and it is only 100 metres away. There is a parking bay behind the cottage which is advertised as only being suitable for a small car but I was able to reverse my Citroen C4 Picasso (not exactly small) in without difficulty, apart from when a white van was parked awkwardly nearby. Having stayed in Youlgreave on several previous occasions parking is mainly "on-street" and during the part of the week when we had 2 cars we had no problem."

"We had a wonderful family stay at Hope Cottage (complete with dog). Hope Cottage is a charming, cosy period home and is of an extremely high standard (comfy beds, cotton linen, fluffy towels, immaculately clean, well equipped kitchen, log burner - even towels and sponges for our dog). The location couldn't be more perfect. Youlgreave is a very picturesque village with plenty of varied, scenic walks to satisfy all levels of fitness right from the front door. We loved weaving our way down the hill past pretty cottages to the river (5 mins) which would be an excellent place to paddle in the summer as well as having a designated swimming area a little further along. It is also very well situated for exploring the main attractions of the area being not far from Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock etc. The Farmyard Inn just a short hop from the front door provides a warm welcome and good food and beers and we also liked Peak Feast (Moor Lane) for cakes, hot soup, homemade ready meals and delicious Homity Pie - a great place to get a picnic for a walk. We would love to return - What more could anyone want?!"

"My wife, young daughter and I spent three nights at Hope cottage after seeing it come on the market at the last minute (I think we were one of the first few guests to stay). It's in a cracking location just a stone's throw from the best pub in the village and if you follow the road past the cottage it takes you down a lovely path to the river. Our three-year old girl loved paddling in the river! The cottage itself is just as nice as the pictures suggest and the owners have clearly paid a lot of attention to making everything just right and the finishing touches are top notch. We spent one night cooking for some friends who visited us and it was a pleasant surprise to have such a well-equipped kitchen - everything we needed was there. All in all a fantastic cottage and village - highly recommended."
