The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere both provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants, plus boat trips are available from Bowness to Ambleside, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's Hill Top House at Sawrey. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is on the edge of the town, plus Grizedale Forest Park is nearby and there are many National Trust properties in the area.

"The Ruscello apartment is a well equipped apartment, situated approx 15 min walk from the town, it is best to go into the town via smithy lane, the next road quite steep, and along the road or via the cemetery path, as there is no foot path along the main road. Given its location is is a very quiet apartment, it has an excellent shower, well equipped kitchen, and a comfortable lounge. there is also a small dining area adjacent to the back door which leads to the garden."
