"My sister and I stayed here for 3 nights while we explored Skye. The Barn is situated in a great location for getting to and from all the sights and Mr Mckenzie has a vast wealth of local knowledge and was able to point us in the direction of all the best spots to visit. The Barn was very cosy and comfortable and we will definitely stay here again and recommend that everyone else does too!!"

"My wife and I spent a lovely week at the Barn in Staffin. It is owned by a wonderful gentleman Mr John McKenzie who was so welcoming, friendly and eager to do all he could to make our stay comfortable. He had a peat fire ready for us when we arrived. The cottage is pet friendly & our dog Buddy was welcomed & loved his stay too. The cottage has a twin bedroom with comfortable beds and an en suite toilet & shower room. The other room is a lounge with dining table and sink, cooker, microwave and fridge freezer. There is a TV with great satellite reception. Phone reception on Vodafone is patchy in Staffin. There is an outhouse with kindling and cut peat to use in the burner in the lounge. Cuddling up on the sofa watching the peat fire crackling away with a dram to sip was bliss. We would highly recommend this cottage. The owner is so kind. "

"Lovely cosy cottage with stunning views. John was the most friendly helpful host you could ever hope to meet and his knowledge of the area is fantastic. The scenery and walks around the area are wonderful , and it was lovely to come back to a lovely warm cottage heated by the peat supplied by John."

"After a 15 hour trip we finally got to the barn. The setting is very nice you can see the sea and the location is excellent for exploring the island. Their is also a shop next door should you run out of stuff. The building consists of 3 rooms., the main room is the living area which consists of kitchen/lounge and dining room the floor is lino but has rugs. The kitchen is very well equipped with every thing you need with a good size fridge and freezer. The lounge area is basic but comfy with a wood/peat burner which is nice once the fire gets going it will warm the place through.the tv is small but acceptable. there is a great book shelf with lots of information about the island . there is also a dining table and chairs which is adequate. The bedroom beds are very comfy and again ut has everything you need even alarm clock bathroom is flagstone floor and can feel cold . overall its a great property for location and has everything you need . few tips Take slippers as the floors can feel cold. in portree their is a large co op get your shopping from there we found the small shops was extremely expensive forgot to say the barn has some fantastic features like the high celings"

"Our stay in the barn at staffin will go down as one of our best holidays ever. The spot is stunning, with views of the sea in front and with the dramatic Quirang behind. John was incredibly welcoming and helpful and makes it feel like home from home. It was one of those stays that you just don't want to ever end and you leave already planning your next visit."

"myself and my partner visited Skye to celebrate my 30th birtday and we stayed in the Barn 22nd-29 march. I have to say I was very impressed by the Barn! the location was perfect with great sea views to the front and the quaraing to the back. The owner of the Barn, John, had lit us a peat fire so the cottage was lovely and cozy for our arrival. Throughout our stay john made us feel welcome, gave us plenty of tips on places to see and visit and also some handy shortcuts and he was always happy to stop for a chat and hear about our day. The barn was the perfect, everything id wanted and more. really didnt want to leave so I will definately be coming back again!"

"We stayed at the barn in September 2013 and had a wonderful holiday. We didn't know anything about Skye before we arrived and so bought the 'Isle of Skye 40 coast and country walks' book which had great suggestions for walks around the island. A lot of the places we went to were a drive away, but the journeys themselves were pretty. We ended the holiday with a truly lovely meal at the nearby glenview hotel (about 10 minute drive on the main road to Portree) which was a unique place which we didn't expect in rural Skye. It was lovely to get back to the barn after weather beaten days out (the weather would go from bright sunshine to rain within seconds, but as long as you're prepared with waterproofs; it's more exhilarating than ruinous and you get to photograph no end of rainbows). There was always peat available for the burner which John kept stocked up. We would reiterate the good comments about John and Morag; they were great. Loved the barn and loved Skye."

"We booked this cottage through Sykes Holiday Cottages & the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly in giving us all the information we wanted , there were also text message updates when it was time to travel to Skye about contact details to get the key for the property , which i might add was very helpful so a great experience in dealing with Sykes Cottages. The cottage itself was very clean & cosy , there is 1 main bedroom , the bathroom is just next to the bedroom , there is a kitchen come living room but there is plenty of space for both to be used at the same time , there is also a wood burning fire which gives off plenty of heat , the kitchen is modern & easy to keep clean , in the living room there is a fold down sofa if you have any guests staying . There is a small shop about 30 feet away so it was easy to get supplies of most things for our stay there , there is a slightly bigger shop in Staffin & this is a 5 min drive or if you need to do a bigger shop then call into Portree on your way up to Staffin as this is the closest town & will take about 15 to 30 mins to get to . The owner John is very friendly & helpful to all who stay there , the scenery is just breath taking & if you catch the tide just right there is a lovely beach just 5 mins walk from the cottage so it was great for our dogs for long walks , we also found the locals were very kind & friendly too & knew all the best places to go on Skye , we had a wonderful relaxing holiday there & were very reluctant to leave after our weeks holiday , we plan to return soon as it was so to our liking as holidays go , i would rate this 10/10."

"Stayed at the Barn for a week during summer. Its location is superb for hikes, drives (motorbike or car) and the views from the driveway are wonderful. The Barn itself is well-equipped, has a nice atmosphere and we would highly recommend it to other couples to visit. The owner is full of stories and great tips when it comes to hikes! Great guy, great barn, great stay. Will certainly come again!"

"The Barn is a wonderful cottage set in amazing scenery. The owner, John, was very helpful and endeavored to make sure we had enough peat for the fire (which was always fun to light). The cottage, recently converted, has all the amenities necessary to make a stay stress-free, and with a shop just a few feet away there is little chance of running out of the essentials. Skye has a multitude of attractions from its scenery to its wildlife and even the chance to go fossil hunting. A week is simply not enough time to explore the island and we intend to go back in the not too distant future. The only downside (albeit relatively minor) is that the cottages' location is not central so there is quite a bit of driving to be done, especially when visiting the south of the island."

"John, the owner, knows all the best places to visit on Skye and was able to help us plan our days. This was our second visit to the Barn and we found it to be very comfortable with good road access to the rest of Skye. We plan on returning for a third visit quite soon."

"This year we decided to stay in Scotland for our summer holiday instead of going abroad. we were fortunate to find The Barn at short notice. We arrived to a beatiful peat fire, and a very well equiped and comfortable house. Mr Mackenzie (JOHN) was the ideal host and very friendly and his knowledge of Skye is second to none. He offered help and assistance with our day trips and was on hand whenever needed. We were lucky to have beautiful weather and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole island. Check out the Bothy (equally well equiped and highly comfortable) which is next to The Barn for larger groups. Shops nearby and the location is ideal to get around the island easily. Amazing holiday - would definitely go back."
