The pretty little village of Ravensworth lies just to the north of Richmond in a minor tributary of the River Swale. Made up of weathered sandstone cottages with their unusual 'Yorkshire' roofs - a mix of soft red pantiles and slate - the village is centred around a wide, picturesque village green. At one end of the green the popular Bay Horse Inn serves good food and drink. Pretty footpaths run from Ravensworth through the surrounding villages allowing visitors to enjoy many circular walks. Close by are the popular Swaledale market town of Richmond and the Teesdale market town of Barnard Castle both of which offer a wide range of amenities and shops.

"We stayed at the end of October and loved every second. We wanted a nice, relaxing and comfortable stay...and we were not disappointed! The hosts, Angela and Jack were really nice and very helpful. We arrived to a welcome hamper which was very generous. The Arches has everything you need - They have thought of everything. We stayed in The Arches - The place is huge! It was very clean, warm and comfortable. The barn conversion has been done to a very high standard. We wanted a place where we, as a family, could chill, chat, cook and spend some quality time together and The Arches was perfect for this. All the rooms are massive. Especially the main bedroom. There is a decent speed WiFi at the property - Mobile phone signal is patchy but that did not bother us. We took our dog and we enjoyed lots of walks. The dog and kids loved watching the chickens and ducks outside the window. It's a working farm so there are lots of animals. Especially sheep. The view from The Arches looks towards the village of Ravensworth - you can even see the ruins of the Castle which was built in 1200! You have to drive by it when entering and leaving the farm - We thought this was very cool. There is a huge lake on the land too. Lots of ducks and wildlife. Great for walking around. We really enjoyed our stay - We were gutted to come home. "

"Stayed here for a weekend with couples and was fantastic. An amazing spacious converted barn. It was so big you could not hear other guests in different rooms. We arrived to a lovely gesture of a welcome hamper which went down well with us ladies. Barn was spotless clean and lovely and warm. the only sound you could hear when we checked in was ooo's and aaaa's. Nothing bad to say at all. 5 Minute walk down the farm brings you to local pub were everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely recommend this to family and friends and shall be returning next year. Thank you for an amazing weekend."

"The barn conversion is more spacious and better appointed than expected. Lots of homely touches made you feel right at home. Everything is as described or better. The en-suite master bedroom and open-plan kitchen/sitting/dining room are huge and light. Two huge sofas welcomed you in. All the technology worked as promised. The farm has an wonderful selection of animals (sheep with lambs, cows with calves, goats, multiple types of poultry including guinea fowl, a dovecote with doves, plus dogs and cats. You can even feed some of the menagerie - the farmer. will give you the right food. We loved being able to walk out into the farmyard and fields with our grandson and our dog. There are three rental properties here. A house and two barn conversions. The barn conversions look at each other, so you need to not mind this and to close curtains when deshabilee. The house is more private than the barn conversions other than the sitting room which overlooks the same courtyard. The two pubs are just as promised, one a short level stroll past the surprisingly impressive ruined castle and the other a steep pull up the hill through the fields. The area was beautiful with Richmond and Barnard Castle being the local towns complete with plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and ruined castles overlooking the Swale and the Tees respectively. We enjoyed lots of lovely hill walks in Arkengarthdale, Swaledale and Wensleydale and spent half a day at the lovely Kiplin Hall."

"It look good when we booked it but it was even better when we got there! The setting and the comfort of the house is excellent and really, really very spacious ( which is ideal when traveling with 2 teenagers and 1 child - not forgetting the excellent WIFI off course). Rural walks within 2 mins reach ( = Mum and dad happy), Richmond Town/shopping within 10 mins ( = Teenagers happy ), Feeding the lambs on the farm ( = Everybody!! happy) 7 days is just far too short."

"Fabulous accommodation ("The Barn"), located near to Richmond in the North Yorkshire Dales, with superb amenities. Angela & Jack, the owners, are the best hosts any guest could wish for. Friendly and welcoming nothing was too much trouble for these hosts who live nearby on this working farm. Our party of five, including our eighteen month old grandson, had a fantastic time in this picturesque rural setting near to the small village of Ravensworth. Used as a base to tour Durham, East and South Yorkshire, Larklands was a delight to return to after a busy day out. The numerous animals on the farm both captivated and fascinated our grandson Rory and to have such closeness with the farm animals during our seven day stay was truly memorable. If you are looking for a holiday cottage in the North Yorkshire area, based upon our experience, Larklands would be very hard to beat. Across the courtyard to our accommodation ("The Barn"), is equally high quality accommodation (which we viewed) known as "The Stables". At some point we hope to return to this area for another holiday and would not hesitate to stay in either of these excellent cottages. Thank you Angela and Jack for helping to make our stay so enjoyable."

"My wife and I were up in N Yorkshire for a Wedding, so a week up in the Dales was a pleasant distraction and that of our Grand Daughter, who loved the farm animals . We have stayed in many cottages up and down the Country. This let is on top of the pile. In antique terms they say 'quality sells'. This cottage had rooms and fittings of the highest quality. Beautifully planned. It was finished to such a high standard that is not normally found in holiday lets. The owners, Angela and Jack were very welcoming, even down to supplying fresh eggs. If I had to be picky and this is no reflection on our fabulous stay, I would say a curtain over the entrance and hall area would give that extra bit of privacy, especially at night when one is dashing from the bedroom to the bathroom."

"We stayed at Larklands from the 12th February to the 15th 2016 with another couple there 3 children and our 3 dogs X and it was absolutely fantastic . Angela & Jack our hosts were so friendly and welcoming, and the place itself was magnificent. The kitchen was all our favourite the sheer size of it was unreal :) loved our welcome pack and the kitchen had everything you ever needed in it. The large airy rooms with open beams were even more better with 7ppl & 3 dogs we never once felt there was not enough space. All bedrooms & bathrooms spotless with lovely little touches and the master room with ensuite was another place altogether loved that they had so many games, toys & DVDs. Now on to the chickens the kids enjoyed seeing them even the dogs fancied a go :( but to top it off we got to feed a lamb which was brilliant been a huge animal lover :) over all our break away was 10/10 everything you could of asked for & more :) not to mention our friends went home a day early for work and as we are non car drivers Angela was more then happy to take us back home now not every host would do that if any X thanks for letting us stay and hope to see you again soon xxxx"

"This November we rented Larklands cottage for the second time. Our hosts, Angela and Jack, greeted us as old friends and the cottage was comfortable and inviting. My husband and I invited another couple to join us for part of our stay and we found that Larklands is the ideal base for touring Yorkshire. We took day trips to York, Castle Howard, Langley Castle, Ripley Castle and the Swaledale area. We also spent many pleasurable days just walking around the farm and enjoying the local scenery. We can't wait for our visit in 2016."

"We had a great week staying at Larklands with our teenage daughter and our two small dogs. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. The barn has everything you could ask for as it's very well equipped. Our daughter loved the free Wifi! Ravensworth is an ideal base if you want to visit the beautiful market towns of Yorkshire. Larklands is really pretty and tranquil and perfect spot for a relaxing break. Our dogs had a great time watching the chickens, ducks etc from the window. Larklands is a working farm and we were slightly worried how the dogs would react but they were perfect and had a great time. Would recommend Larklands to anyone looking for luxury accommodation in a beautiful and relaxing location."

"We spent a week in this lovely barn conversion and cannot rate it too highly. It is much better equipped than many of the other places we have rented and is extremely comfortable. We were made to feel like very welcome guests and Jack and Angela could not have been more helpful or kinder. We even had a constant supply of free, fresh eggs! The area itself is beautiful and we found it very easy to get to Richmond and places a bit further afield such as Fountains Abbey and Durham. Would love to go back."

"My husband and I spent two weeks at Larklands on our annual trip to the UK. The whole experience was a delight. Angela and Jack are wonderful hosts. The barn conversion is to very high standards, a beautiful old building with a very modern and comfortable interior. Bedrooms and bathrooms were well stocked with linens and very peaceful for a good nights sleep. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals from our local shopping sprees. The market town of Richmond is a short drive away and has a wonderful butcher and fresh produce markets. Larklands is close to several good restaurants and pubs. All in all, a fantastic vacation home, one that we will revisit as often as possible."

"Put simply, DO NOT go to Larklands if you DO NOT like: 1. Big, beautiful barn conversions with loads of space. 2. Places that are well heated, decorated, furnished and equipped. 3. Dark night time skies which show the brilliance of the stars 4. Quiet rural locations where the sound of silence at night is only punctuated by nature, and not a great deal more by day time. 4. Chickens peering through your door or full length windows 5. The delicious eggs from the said birds. 6. A great pub 10 min walk/2 min drive away 7. The northern Yorkshire Dales close by. 8. Welcoming but unobtrusive hosts. Get our drift?????"

"We stayed here as a family group that included our children and grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hosts have not penny-pinched with this accommodation therefore we found it well equipped, clean, comfortable. The setting was ideal for those who appreciate peaceful surroundings and our young grandchildren enjoyed playing with the farm animals. The hosts were welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. We would welcome the chance to stay agian."

"Larklands cottage is a very comfortable and well- equipped cottage and is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. The cottage is light, spacious and well presented and the children enjoyed seeing the chickens and lambs around the place. It was clean and the facilities were very good. We were given a warm welcome with fresh eggs and bread. The nearby village is quiet and picturesque with a friendly pub serving a wide range of food."

"We have had a fabulous stay at Larklands. The accommodation is first class and has everything you need and more. The farm offered endless adventures for our 3 and 5 year old girls and feeding lambs, ducks and baby chicks was a delight! The surroundings offered peace, relaxation and tranquility for mum, dad, granny and grandad. And the dog loved the countryside walks! The lovely town of Richmond was close enough and had everything you need and the area is stunning! Definitely eat at The Shoulder of Mutton pub. Fabulous food! All in all, a wonderful place to escape to and definitely will return..."

"Have just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing week with my sister @ Larklands, the cottage is a joy to stay in, on the outskirts of a quiet little village, surrounded by beautiful views. The cottage is on a working farm and the animals, especially the chickens, are a joy to watch. The cottage has everything anyone could wish for and within walking distance of the local pub. I would recommend a holiday at this cottage, any time of the year, a little gem, therefore please ignore the one negative review from JennieHo5, they must have been wearing blinkers or just 'miffed' that they couldn't let the dogs chase the sheep!"

"Lovely location, spectacular views & a spacious property with wooden beams, skylights and stone archways that is lacking in nothing! It was a family holiday of 4 adults (2 of which are wheelchair users) and our 15month old son, who it was a particularly fantastic experience for with the large open spaces, tractors to watch plus chickens and ducks to feed. We couldn't have asked for better hosts, they looked after us brilliantly with a superb welcome pack consisting of eggs, bread, milk, butter, jam etc, a fabulous hearty home made meal on arrival (small additional charge) and fresh flowers throughout the home. The only downside was it had to come to an end, so we promptly booked in for our next visit!"

"We stayed at Larklands for one week. The outside photographs do not tell the whole story. The lounge faces a derelect buiding a broken down old barn. There is not any privacy as you share the back patio with three other families. The back patio is made up of loose chippings and not a suitable surface for anyone with any kind of mobility problem. The owners who at first appear friendly are always around and are overbearing.Far from being pet friendly there is no private area to let out your dogs without a lead as the courtyard and surround are overrun with cats and chickens which drives them mad.The advertisement said it is a working farm, however this was not fair to the dogs. The advertisement shows views across fields to ruins which can only be seen from the kitchen window,it also said to collect the keys from the farm opposite not next door.We have been holidaying in this part of yorkshire for many years with many companies but this was the worst. No privacy!"

"The barns have been tastefully converted to provide first class accommodation and a real homely feel. The photos do not do justice to the property and has to be experienced to fully appreciate. A real home from home. Located close to the A66 gives a central position to explore the dales, towns and attractions within easy distance. Tesco delivery was on time and saved time on food shopping. The property is well managed and everything is provided even down to the fresh flowers on arrival, and if you need something else just ask and the owners will do their best to help. Gill and Angela make the whole experience wonderful. It's on a farm but without the mud and smells you sometimes get. Open the back door and collect the eggs from the free range chickens (plus a liberal sprinkling of cockerels) Feeding the orphaned lambs was a thrill for our daugther too. Two pubs to choose from, one in the village and a better one just up the hill above the cattle barns. Otherwise just melt into the massive settee and watch TV or DVDS provided. Overall the best farm holiday we have had."
