The attractive village of Ingleton is nestled beneath Ingleborough, one of the famous ‘Three Peaks' on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Offering a wide range of shops, pubs and places to eat, the winding streets of this pretty village all converge on a central market place. A mile outside of Ingleton and down the Hawes road are the well known White Scar Caves. Open to the public, these caves display a huge number of caverns full of stalactites and stalagmites, with one cave home to a huge underground lake. The superb ‘Falls Walk' offers an interesting circuit which takes in some of the impressive cascading waterfalls of the area whilst the proximity to both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake distract make this an excellent place for walkers.

"Our family of 4 adults and children stayed at netherscar in August. We have stayed before and always find the cottage a true place to unwind and enjoy the peace, quiet and stunning views. The cottage did not offer 5 star luxury. It doesn't say it does. It's comfortable, cosy and well equipped. There's plenty of room for the kids to play and the big garden is perfect for running about with a football. The facilities are fine. Hot shower and bath for the kids. Yes the water is a bit brown. It comes from a private spring and is coloured by peat. The owners provide a filter jug which we use to fill the kettle. Walks from the cottage are wonderful and a walk to the viaduct is well rewarded with a pint in the railway station pub. The cottage is quite remote but we have navigated the lane easily with a variety of cars non of which were 4x4's. This year was the first with WiFi! A welcome addition."

"Went here in 2011 and it was fine, hence our repeat visit. What a mistake. Netherscar has always been rustic but this time it was awful. A grimy and dangerous place. When we arrived the dishwasher was full. The Kettle, toaster and microwave filthy. The Cooker not been cleaned for weeks. The downstairs toilet seat cracked and filthy. Electrical sockets in the sun room broken/overheated and suffering water ingress. The Electric shower intermittent for water heating. The Sun lounge reeks of nicotine and stronger smokes! Complained to Sykes did get a small amount refunded. How anyone has given this a good review recently is shocking in itself. Shame its a beautiful setting."

"The location of the holiday cottage is quite remote which is fine but you need a 4x4 to get to it safely as you leave the tarmac and go through the farm and up a dirty road. Luckily we did but the other cars struggled quite a bit. There are some great walks the and the local waterfalls are a definite visit. I can only describe the experience as boarding on camping. The sheets where dirty and we washed most of the plates and utensils before using them. The wind also is a real problem as it howls down the side of the house as it is set in a gully. The views from the property are amazing and we undertook a walk from the house to the Ribblehead Viaduct which is a must see. Very impressive of the Victorians to build such a monumental structure. It would of been nice to go back to a nice shower which was permanently cold and smelt so bad I couldn't face using it. The bath was the next option but as the water is brown (due to Peat Water being in use - the property is not on the mains) the though of sitting in it was too off putting so in the 4 days there I could barley wash. It you want a basic, slightly dirty and dilapidated holiday cottage then this is the one for you and the price reflects that. The internet is very good and quick, but overall this is not the place to go to relax. It is more of place to take dogs, walk and generally be out and about most of the time. There are great local pubs to eat at and to taste some local ale."

"Cottage is basic but clean Ideal for us with a dog and a baby. Excellent kitchen facilities with oven dishwasher etc. Very secluded and quiet. Just loved it. Brilliant to see a working farm in action. Owners close but didn't bother us. Will be returning just for the view of nothing else"

"Spectacular views , tranquil will be back again . The owner was contactable and even offered to get shopping if stuck. Was not disturbed watched the ramblers and sheep, did not need tv.Local pub a two mile walk ,.You can catch a train into settle. This cottage is ideal for silence and views. Would recommend . The freezer and fridge hold enough for a week so you can stock up , kitchen equipped ok."

"This cottage ( a house really) is exactly what I was looking for when the lease ended after 13 years on my cottage in Perthshire. One is left completely alone, though help is near at hand, it is warm and roomy, smoking is allowed and if, like me, one is keen on railways, the opportunities for rewarding short drives, cycle rides and walks is almost boundless."

"The cottage was a really nice one, there was 6 adults and my then 6month old grandaughter. We had plenty of room so nobody was in one anothers way. There was plenty of information of what was around and about to do, which was helpful for us when we had done all we had planned. I phoned the owners the day before and they were really helpfull they answered all i asked. The only let down we had was the lack of cleaning my eldest daughter and myself had to clean from top to bottom as there was dog hairs everywhere and when i washed the floors i had to change the water 3 times. The drive up to the cottage is a long way from the road but we didnt mind that. Dont run out of anything as the nearest shops are a fair distance. What we all liked was the open views we had, the viaduct was in sight from the sunlounge, the people was all so frindly. Would we go again... yes we would."

"The main attraction for us was the view and the fact they accepted 2 dogs. The place was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed. The owner was friendly and helpful. We were left to enjoy the isolation and brillient walks from the doorstep."

"We have stayed at Netherscar twice. Both times we have had a marvellous time. The walks from the doorstep are magnificent. Intrepid walkers can do the Yorkshire Peaks if so inclined. For the less agile there are level walks too. The drive up to the cottage is wonderful with sheep and cows sat on the track, reluctantly moving to let the car pass! The view of the viaduct is great and we enjoyed watching trains go over it, walking under it and learning its history up at the very friendly visitor centre. The cottage itself is a little jaded but clean and comfy. Would not win any prizes in an Ideal Home exhibition but that is part of its charm. The owner was quick to rectify the shower which stopped working and attend to all our needs, but never intrusive. There are plenty of places to drive to nearby e.g. Hawes, Ingleton etc. but mostly we enjoyed sitting in the sun lounge taking in the views, reading and totally relaxing. It is a truly 'get away from it all' place."

"After spending a wonderful Xmas at this cottage in 2007, we decided to return in the summer holidays. The weather was pretty much the same! You don't come here for the weather though, but for the stunning location. It is pretty remote & the cottage interior is not likely to feature in a glossy 'Homes' magazine but it has the most amazing homely atmosphere, cosy coal fire & you could literally sit for hours taking in the incredible view from the picture window of the 'Sun'room. If weather permits, the 'White Scar' caves are a must. If you are looking for a 'get away from it all' break, this place is perfect. I love this cottage!"

"This is the fourth time we have visited Netherscar but never have we had the weather so good! Wall to wall sunshine. It was beautiful to come downstairs in the morning to a clear view of the summit of Ingleborough one way and the magnificant viaduct the other. We never tire of the walks, both long and short from Netherscar. My first visit to the Hill Inn and the food was excellent, a lot better than the Station Inn and what a fascinating place ... a treasure trove! There was a new floor in the cottage and also a new kitchen, which was great. An abundance of wildflowers were filling the garden and the cows had their calves in the field beyond. Heaven!!!"
