"Just come back from a week at Walmsley House. The property has got loads of space downstairs allowing a group to be in different spaces at any one time. The garden was secure which was good. The setting is ideal for lots of amenities and the favourite for our group was North Beach at Bridlington. The House has loads of DVD's and books to help the unwinding process."

"We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Walmsley House. The house is ideal for family gatherings - big spacious rooms and a beautiful garden for people to congregate in. One night we cuddled up in the snug for a dvd, the next we gathered around an enormous dining room table for board games and the final night we soaked up the evening sun in the conservatory with a glass of wine. The owners were quick to respond to any questions we had before and during our stay. We enjoyed a walk out to Bempton cliffs, a day trip to Bridlington and a yummy take away from The White Horse Inn over the road. The house has some quirks but bare in mind that it is an old building and for many this will add to the charm. It is well equipped with cutlery, crockery and glasses plus board games, DVDs and games for children. We took our dog and she enjoyed the stay (especially the garden) as much as we did."

"Although the house is spacious, it manages to retain a real homely feel. Despite its considerable age, there are no dark corners anywhere. (Not a shiver or a single heebie-jeebie in sight, in fact - not even for our hyper-imaginative daughter!) We all slept extremely well indeed. After a long day out in the fresh air, Walmsley is such a welcoming place to come home to. The large secure garden is an added bonus, especially for our dogs! Yes, for sure, the house has its quirks, but they only made us love it even more. In short, all the other positive reviews are true. (Why else would people return to Walmsley time and again?) As for us, we can't wait to go back!"

"We stayed here in a big three-generation family group over the May half-term holiday week. It suited us perfectly. It's a big old house with some quirks, but with a homely feel to it and we all enjoyed our holiday. Plenty of space for the children to run around outside, and plenty of things to amuse them indoors too. Better equipped than other self-catering properties we have rented. The pub opposite is very friendly and serves excellent local real ale and good "pub grub" style food. To cap it all, it's walking distance from the wonderful Bempton cliffs with their incredible seabird population. (Well, most of us walked - it was a bit too far for the 16-month-old!)"

"Along with my wife and 5 year old twins, this was our third stay at Walmsley House. As with previous visits, it made for a fantastic break away with friends. The house is a belter; great location, full of character and kitted up well for large groups or extended families. We were 3 families staying in total, with other friends dropping in for the day. The huge lounge and dining table is perfect for big meals and games, and we found the conservatory a beautiful room for breakfast. The house is great for young ones to explore, with boxes of games/toys around and a Wii in the snug, and we loved games and evening fires in the beautiful, enclosed garden. I'm pretty surprised by the review left around Christmas 2017; I have no idea where they stayed but it's a mile from our experiences! The only exception is first impression of WH could be better - the exterior from the road is in need of a lick of paint, but I imagine there are issues with having to close the road in order to carry out the work. For me, it's fantastic. It feels like a genuine family home, and we'll be back as often as we're able."

"I have been to Walmsley House on several occasions and it is great for whatever you want it for. It is extremely close to Bridlington and Scarborough which makes day tripping lots of fun. The house was very clean when we arrived and there was a new dvd player in the TV room and a new shower in the master bedroom, something that we had spoken to the owners when we had gone before. We love going in the summer as well as the winter as we go out some days but enjoy having a cosy night in as well."

"This is the second time I've been to Walmsley House and it holds a special place in my heart. This is a family and pet friendly property which is ideal for big groups. We stayed comfortably as 3 families with young children. The children were able to roam around the house and loved having space to explore and play together. This house feels like a home and not a sterile holiday home with no character. I love the creaky floors, the log fire, the cosy snug, the light shining through the conservatory whilst you have a cup of tea, the huge sociable dining table where you can laugh and talk whilst eating etc The location of the property is perfect for exploring some of our favourite spots in Yorkshire...Scarborough, Filey, Bempton Cliffs (for bird watchers!) and a new discovery, Fraisthorpe Beach! Eat ice-cream at Mr Woos and Harbour Bar, take the kids to John Bull's Rock Factory (check the opening times!) and eat homemade cake at the Cowshed on Fraisthorpe Beach. I feel like I've had a little retreat and I can't wait to go again soon."

"where do I start ! on arrival the outside was a bit of a shock. The render was cracked allover and falling off the walls. The cleaners had returned as they had forgotten to put up the correct amount of beds and only 1 travel cot was there when we specifically asked for 2 - petty you may think but this turned out to be the least of or problems. 1 - on arrival we put the twins into the highchairs only to discover that one of the high chairs had broken straps resulting in a child hitting the floor face first - to be told by the owner when we contacted her to report the broken straps, that the highchairs were only suitable for toddlers - not sure what she thinks a walking 13 month old is !! 2 - only 1 travel cot - we eventually located the other after contacting the caretaker to be told that there was another somewhere ! 3 - carpets and floors filthy - within minutes the children's clothes were ruined 4 - washing machine not working so couldn't even wash the ruined clothes - when we contacted the owner about this we were told it was working 2 weeks ago - NOT helpful at all 5 - NO parking spaces anywhere at all. landlord of the pub was happy for us to park and unload but not park there. locals complained to the point where we even had notices put on our cars. 6 - two bathrooms, one of which had a bath that would not drain and a dripping shower meaning that one of the bathrooms was out of action from day 1 leaving only 1 bathroom for 8 adults and 5 toddlers to use 7 - beds had the most uncomfortable mattresses on them - every spring felt 8 - hoover completely blocked so had to be taken apart and cleaned before it could even be used 9 - carpet on the landing had big gap - trip hazard we paid for 7 nights expecting to have a lovely family xmas and in the end 2 families left after 3 days and the second families left on the fourth day. this place is disgusting and is advertised incorrectly and is in dire need of an overhaul and a good clean. The owner apologised to us and promised a refund and some compensation for our bad experience but then back peddled somewhat when she contacted the rental company and decided to tell them that we had left the property in a mess and that she had not had any contact from us I have plenty of photographs to prove other wise if anyone wishes to see them for themselves. I would not recommend this property at all and am extremely disappointed that our Christmas has been ruined and that the owner of this property clearly is only interested in taking peoples money from them for what is more than an inadequate accommodation"

"We needed a place big enough for 11 people and with enough space so Grandparents could get some quiet time away from 5 grandchildren if needed! Walmsley House provided this for us in bucket loads! Downstairs there is a fab snug and large conservatory with doors to the spacious enclosed garden, which the children loved as they could run about in total safety and burn off all their energy! The large table outside allowed us all to eat outside on the warm days and on cooler days we had a choice of a large table in the conservatory or the dining room. The kitchen was very well equipped and had plenty of cutlery and plates etc as there is nothing more annoying than having to wash up after every meal just to ensure you have enough stuff for the next one! There certainly is enough space to all be together or get some peace and quiet if needed! There is also a downstairs loo, which whilst quirky was also quite cool! The owners provided loads of toys for the children as well as plenty of books for both children and adults alike which is a lovely touch! Upstairs there is a family bathroom with loo, separate loo and an en-suite in the master bedroom, we never found we were waiting for bathrooms or loos and even if you cant shower as fast as you would at home you are holiday anyway so should be enjoying a more relaxed pace! I would certainly suggest some investment in new bedding and as another poster commented no-one really knows (or minds) if it is antique or Argos as long as you are getting into a comfy bed with thick pillows and a snuggly duvet! We used the pub across the road a couple of times and it was fab, food good and staff friendly! We had an issue with the lock on the conservatory door but the caretaker came and sorted it the very same day so no issue there at all! All in all we loved Walmsley! Thank you Anna for such an easy and accommodating booking experience and for letting us use your wonderful house! We will be back!!!"

"I manage a team of semi pro darts players and we needed a large house for a week for us in late September for the British Open and the World masters where we could all relax. This was the 8th Air BnB we have used this season and right from the off I knew it would be another great place to stay. Great communication at all times from Anna in advance of our trip and we arrived to a wonderful house that was perfect to our group of 12s needs. Very helpful guide book to the property and the local area meant we soon had visited the excellent local shop and pub that was just across the road. The house is full of charm and character with a beautiful garden and the log fire in one of the reception rooms was most welcome. Excellent kitchen that has everything you could want. It really was the perfect place for a group of our size that needed space to relax and unwind after a stressful day at the darts. We will be back next year and I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely home to anyone looking for a place to stay for a larger group in a wonderful part of the world."

"Went for the weekend 4 adults and 6 kids (aged between 2 and 9). Really great quirky space, loads of rooms with nooks and crannies and bags of character. A layout that the kids just loved exploring and playing hide and seek in. Lovely huge garden too. Various boxes of toys for the kids which they enjoyed and a village pub directly across the road. Loved it"

"As only part of the party that actually stayed here i am unable to comment on the booking. Upon looking at the house on the internet, overall, it looked like it would accommodate our needs (7 adults 5 children). Having stayed there i feel obliged to add some comments. firstly from the outside. The house is set in a beautiful village location with a pub and post office literally on the door step and a small park within a short walk and of course Bempton cliffs close by too. The house is unfortunately situated within a step of the main village road which when kids and dogs are within your party can be a safety nightmare. We used the garden gate and kept the front door locked as a precaution. The house exterior needs some TLC and looks a little dated and neglected. The kitchen was modern enough although the fridge and freezer are no way big enough for a party of 12. The interior door had "lost" its shelves and the light didnt work so we were unsure if it was actually working as it wasnt over-cold. there is a breakfast table that sits 4 but this actually got in our way and could have done without it to free up more space in the kitchen. Some of the utensils were broken and needed replacing and (maybe a bit quirky for me) there was only 1 frying pan..now when doing a cooked breakfast for at least 7 people this was impossible. We also found a few dense cobwebs in the kitchen too. lots of plates and dishes and glasses though. The dining room was of good size and a great long table which we used for breakfasts. The snug was my favourite room as it was cosy and comfy and felt welcoming. nicely decorated, this also had a sofa bed and the Wii and decent tv. the kids hogged this room! We never used the conservatory as we were blessed with good weather and we used the outdoor space. but it is a good size and if the bushes were trimmed down on one side wouldnt be as dark either. downstairs loo was a bit strange..you needed to go up 2 steps to get on the loo and i was concerned for the younger kids falling down them. bit dated and could have been alot brighter and welcoming. the staircase is a wonderful feature of the house but i felt again that it could do with lick of paint and paper. Now although there are several bedrooms i am going to comment on the one we had. The "main" bedroom..good points...its massive! lovely big bed and two smaller beds furniture all matching. and the bonus of an en-suite! Bad points....creaky floor boards that im sure and underlay under the carpet could have soundproofed a little and also been a little softer under the feet. The bed was a king size..but only had a DOUBLE duvet and a double sheet set, the pillows needed replacing too. the other kids beds seemed ok. Some curtains instead of home-made blinds would compliment the bedroom too... The bathroom needs a door of some description it only has a curtain which is not the best. The bathroom wasnt as clean as i would have liked and the shower handle was broken which meant if you used it, it then dripped...like torture..all night...my husband found out how to stop this when we left. the shower curtain doesnt go all the was round so dripped out onto the carpet nearest the taps. There is ONE bathroom for 8 people.....no way is that enough we obviously let our group share our en-suite but it was a nightmare. One of our group said their bed was really uncomfortable too and the bedroom cramped. The garden, to me, is the best feature of the house. it is enclosed so great for kids and dogs to run around safely. its in a quiet village position and the MASSIVE outdoor table is brilliant! we were blessed with good weather so hardly used the inside space only for breakfast, we bbq'd and ate out. Garden could have done with a tidy up but on the whole it served our purpose. This house could be so beautiful and has so much potential. Even with a bit of TLC. The webpage and description needs to be re-written too. The author plays on the high end products that lavish the house...actually as a guest i just wanted a cosy bed with a big enough duvet...wasnt bothered if it was Laura Ashley or Argos! I WOULD recommend this to friends but only with the insight of the points above as it is a great little house and lovely garden within a brilliant position."

"We have just returned from a lovely stay and family celebration at Walmsley House. There was space enough for extended family to stay while 18 of us had plenty of space to celebrate a birthday, play, barbecue, eat and mingle. A quirky house, Walmsley House has lots to offer: a sunny conservatory, cosy snug and large living room downstairs, exquisite wooden furniture, a working fireplace and fire pit outside, loads of interesting nooks and crannies. It is clearly a special retreat for the owners' family, not just a run-of-the-mill rental. Other big pluses include: a pub serving decent grub across the road, as well as the amazing RSPB sanctuary and stark beauty of Flamborough Head within a few minutes' drive."

"The pictures did not provide a true reflection of all the rooms. There is a reason why no picture exists of the front of the property, access is directly off a main road without any pavement on a bend. Due to problems with the en-suite bathroom, 6 adults had to use the remaining bathroom for showers, and even this had a blockage in the plug hole. Caretaker was supposed to re-visit to make repairs, but never saw him again after the initial visit. Nice garden though."
