Overview

The Wainscott is a charming barn conversion in an 18th century Grade II listed building. The semi-detached property has three-bedrooms, comprising one twin, one double and one fitted with children's bunks. Three bedrooms: 1 x ground floor twin, 1 x double, 1 x children's bunks (5'4" x 3'). Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin & WC. Ground floor basin & WC. Kitchen with dining area. Sitting room with woodburner.

The Wainscott has been renovated to very high standards and has a fitted kitchen with dining area, bathroom and cloakroom and a sitting room with a cosy wood-burning stove. The barn conversion is set in a beautiful 22-acre smallholding deep in the Shropshire countryside. The owners can offer eggs and home-grown vegetables from their farmhouse door, and visitors will love the sheep and chickens which are reared on the busy smallholding. The holiday property features a lovely fenced-in garden, which is perfect for outdoor dining. Visitors to The Wainscott are also offered the use of a year-round tennis court plus the chance for some coarse fishing on a nearby one-acre pond. A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

"We booked a short stay at the Wainscott with the intention of Catching up with old friends in Shrewsbury. Little did we realise there'd be so much to keep us entertained in this beautiful home we'd barely leave the site during our stay! It was difficult to keep our 5 and 2 year olds out of the fresh air. With 22 acres to explore they were spoilt for choice bouncing between the stepping stones across the lake, exploring the woodland and incredible tree house, chasing geese, fighting over the swing on the old oak tree and collecting eggs with Helen our 3 days felt more like a fortnight and we all left refreshed with smiles on our faces. We very much hope to be back soon."

"Great cottage in a beautiful location, ideal for our Christmas and New Year hideaway with our 3 kids. The furniture is beautiful and fits with the properties style. We loved the wood burner on the cold winters evenings as it made things very cozy. Great Lyth feels fantastically remote, but in reality still fairly close to the amenities of Shrewsbury (Sainsbury's and M&S only 10 minutes away). We hope to be back in the warmer months to take advantage of the fishing lake and patio area which will be amazing for a family BBQ! Appreciate both Helen and Peter's hospitality, particularly the cakes on arrival and helping my son with his request to milk the chickens... We will be back."

"From the minute we found the cottage we were blown away by the fantastic grounds and facilities it has to offer. The view from the front door alone is priceless let alone knowing most of it belongs to Peter and Helen. The garden is a perfect place for children to play with a patio area with seating to eat out - we had breakfast in the sunshine most mornings. Out of the gate at the bottom of the garden is the sheep field, at the bottom of the field is the old oak tree with swings underneath- endless fun - if a bit 'farmy' . Through the top gate leads to the little lake complete with an island to voyage to and another tree swing. Up past the lake over the top field is the woodland walk with the tree house and woodcutters hut. Helen kindly showed us around her beautiful garden and we had apples, beans and tomatoes fresh from the plants. The hens only managed one egg but it was lovely. Peter showed us his bees and talked to us about the fabulous home he'd created for his family, which is probably why it was such a perfect place to spend a week with our own family. Hosts were lovely, house and grounds amazing x "

"Our multi generational family thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Wainscott. It has a lovely garden in a truly peaceful setting with lots of space and opportunities for everyone to amuse themselves. All ages were catered for with the fishing pool, outdoor toys, tennis court, and field. It is in a pleasant rural area suitable for country walking and yet conveniently located for Shrewsbury and not too far from more distant tourist attractions. Inside it is comfortable and was equipped with all that we needed. The owners were very helpful and welcoming. I can't fault it and would definately pay a return visit."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our week. The cottage was very well appointed with a few little touches which we haven't experienced before e.g. a lovely cake on arrival. Unfortunately the weather disappointed but we won't blame the owner for that!"
