Quietly situated between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, the tranquil village of Ravenstonedale lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells. This charming little village is a thriving rural community with many beautifully preserved traditional dwellings. The picturesque Ravenstonedale boasts a lovely parish church as well as the remains of an old Gilbertine Priory. Once a year the area still hosts its annual agricultural show and even now hill farming remains the principal income of the area. A. Wainwright, the famous author, once described the settlement as ‘one of Westmorland's loveliest villages'. The area provides many excellent walking and cycling routes and nearby, visitors can see the Settle to Carlisle Railway Line, the magnificent Howgill Fells and the stunning Yorkshire Dales, making this a wonderful location no matter what time of year.

"Great setting, House was warm and plenty of hot water but owners went for maximising the number of beds and didn't equip the property for a potential nine residents. for example the sitting room only had two settee's. Two of the four bedrooms lacked bedside tables and bedside lights. The dishwasher was poor and we had to frequently rinse plates. Dishwasher safe cutlery was not provided so had to be washed seperately. . There were only three items of 'oven to table' ware. We were a party of 4 so just about managed with this but it would be problematic with a larger group. We normally find stock food items [ sauces, oil, etc] left by previous visitors but not here. No tumble dryer, no airer, no clothes line. Fortunately we had good weather. We knew there was no DVD player so brought our own but we normally expect that as standard. We knew there would be no WiFi but strongly suspect that this could be wired from the owners property next door. All in all a disappointing rental from a party with a significant amount of experience of renting houses in the UK."

"Fabulous location and very clean cottage with nice views and plenty of character. The boys enjoyed the woodburning stove. The plumbing in the cottage was second to none with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. However, the Dishwasher and Microwave did not work, part of the fridge door was missing and the oven dial settings had been cleaned off so it was difficult to set temperatures. Generally the property needed some maintenance with patches of damp on the walls and draughty windows. The property had a number of Woodlice and other insects both downstairs and upstairs. Downstairs the bedrooms were sparsely furnished so there were no surfaces to put clothes and things. There were no bed-side tables so everything (glasses, books, mobile phones) had to go on the stone floors that were bare throughout with the exception of a couple of rugs. Outside the hardcore track leading down was potholed and care needed to be taken when driving up to avoid bottoming the car on the stones. Also note that there is a charge to use the towels. It's a shame because the property has such potential!"

"This was exactly what we wanted, plenty of room, warm, isolated in this wonderful part of Cumbria! Owners live next door but were very discreet, much appreciated. Lacked coat pegs for anoraks etc and perhaps a DVD player when weather bad as it was for us for a week!"

"I stayed at ash Pot Barn with 6 other ladies. We had a great time. We couldnt fault our stay in anyway. We would definatley return, especially in Summer as it has a great BBQ area overlooking the Fells, But was cosy in the winter when we went. We walked to the Fat Lamb pub which took about 1 hour 10 mins. Secluded location but perfect for relaxing and staying in, great kitchen/living area. Bedrooms spacious and everywhere very clean."

"We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was comfortable and well laid out. Very clean and newly decorated. Bedrooms would benefit from a little more furniture. The drive was quite steep but fine once we got used to it. Liked the open plan living area and the modern bathrooms best. Liked Spartan bedrooms least but they were clean. Scenery beautiful. Good walking straight from the door. The owners were very helpful."
