Goodrich is a small and picturesque village located in the shadow of Goodrich Castle which overlooks the Wye Valley and is very close to the Forest of Dean. The Wye Valley covers the borders between England and Wales and has been established as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, reflecting the stunning scenery and the abundance of wildlife that lives there. The Forest of Dean is one of the last ancient forests in Britain, covering over 110 kilometres of woodland and lies between the River Wye and the River Severn. The River Wye itself is internationally acclaimed for the quality of its salmon and fishing is one of the many outdoor pursuits visitors can enjoy, alongside canoeing and river walks.

"The minute you walked through the front door you knew the accomodation was going to be good and that's such a relief when holidaying in the UK as you never know how much time you will need to spend there with our unpredictable weather. Well this cottage was immaculate but also cosy. The bedroom had a massive bed with lovely bed linen that smelt really fresh, plenty of wardrobe/drawers etc. The lounge had two 2 seater settees, a flat screen TV, a fire and cupboard housing numerous books mostly of walks in and around the area. The bathroom was spotless and spacious. The kitchen had a small table with 2 chairs, fridge, cooker, toaster, microwave and a welcome pack of Eccles cakes, crisps and apple juice. The owners had even left out vinegar, salt and pepper, sugar, washing up liquid, cleaning cloths, the sort of things you forget to take with you but don't think it's worth buying for the short time you're there. The outside had a small patio with 2 garden chairs and a parking space for 1 car. The owners run the local post office come general store (the only one in the village I think) and the cottage is attached to this but it is very quiet. There is a castle you can walk to and we cycled to symmonds yat along the beautiful countryside. There is one pub within walking distance which was very cosy but I thought a little on the expensive side for what you got, but there were other pubs not to far away if you didn't mind driving. We didn't get to meet the owners, although we knew we could reach them via the post office, because the cottage had everything we needed, even the heating had been adjusted so that after we'd been out all day it was lovely and warm to come home to. Couldn't fault this property the owners had thought of everything."

"The owners were extremely helpful, friendly and nearby to assist when needed. The property is well set out and has all that is needed for a break in a peaceful location. The location was perfect for us with walks and ammenities (local shop, pub, restaurant) all within easy walking distance. All was fine - washing machine/tumble drier was the only extra which would of been useful with getting wet occasionally! Perfect weather was not included in this package unfortuantely!"
