The beautiful village of Askrigg is set in stunning Wensleydale. Askrigg is known to many as the home of Skeldale House where vet James Herriot lived in "All Creatures Great and Small." This breathtaking area is home to many beauty spots including Aysgarth Falls and nearby Semerwater, Yorkshire's only natural lake, which was formed (so legend says) after a weary traveller was refused hospitality from a raging storm by the villagers and so cursed the village to a watery end. There are castles at Bolton and Middleton, the spectacular Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall at a height of 99 feet and many other market towns and villages to discover. Askrigg is a wonderful village from which to discover this magnificent area and makes a great holiday base.

"This property is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in! The rooms are very spacious & the upside down set-up works well. There was not a speck of dust to be found & the cottage has a warm, homely feel to it. The owners provided everything we needed & the wi-fi is fast & reliable which is a must for ourselves. The cottage itself is in a quiet village but is perfectly placed for walking & nearby Hawes & Bainbridge which are both lovely villages. We would have no hesitation in returning again!"

"Brilliant holiday cottage The cleanest most comfortable cottage we have stayed in, in 12 years. Comfiest beds Fab location Only downside for us , and this was our fault for not researching properly was the lack of a child friendly garden or green space in village for kids to play in."

"Very high quality cottage in an excellent position for touring the Dales. The best beds we have had in a holiday cottage. Not really suitable for an old dog due to the upside down layout as the steps are steep."

"The cottage was very well equipped and in a great location. The owners had provided the essentials that sometimes you don't get with holiday rentals. Worton is a great location for visiting Wensleydale and Swaledale. We particularly enjoyed the short walk across the fields to askrigg to visit the Deli, the shop and the Crown Inn."

"This is a lovely, well fitted out cottage (with WiFi) situated in Worton, Wensleydale and giving convenient access to open moorland and wild life. Wensleydale Creamery is a must visit (the best cheeses), the rope manufacturing factory in Hawes is interesting as are aysgarth Falls and the River Ure valley. The Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton is a recommended eatery (other pubs in the Hawes area less so). The museum in Hawes is worth a look and the Tourist information is excellent. A weekly parking ticket is good value if touring the area by car. Swaledale has a few villages with some interesting local craft shops."
