Little Langdale is a hamlet of a few scattered stone houses and a pub in the valley of the same name. The Three Shires Inn gets its name from the location two miles away where the boundaries of the old counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, and Lancashire met. At the head of the valley is Blea Tarn. Offering stunning views of the Langdale Pikes, Blea Tarn is a small lake in one of the most picturesque parts of the Lake District and contains brown perch, trout and pike. Stone built Blea Tarn House, built in the 1600s, sits nearby. Other attractions in the area include the remains of a Viking settlement, where the Viking open-air parliament was held and new laws proclaimed. Nearby, Green Burn Mine is widely regarded as the best preserved copper mine in the Lake District. There is a beautiful walk to these remote remains, offering unsurpassed views of the region.

"It's a great location and there's a stunning view of the Langdale Pikes from the window of the living room but that's about all this cottage has going for it. Sadly it is too poorly equipped and too poorly cleaned to justify the fairly high rent. All of the cutlery, crockery, utensils etc. are of a quality that you would feel embarrassed taking to a charity shop. There might be a 'new' big screen TV and Sky box but both are quite ancient and have clearly been dumped in the cottage when they were replaced with better models elsewhere. No thought at all has been given to equipping the cottage properly. For example there is a floor lamp in the corner between two settees which is operated by a foot switch which you can only get to by literally climbing onto the settee and leaning over with your hand. There is a broom in one corner but no dust pan or hoover that we could find so if you want to do the decent thing and keep the floor a bit tidy your only option is to sweep the dirt into a corner. The fridge didn't seem to work too well possibly due to the big hole in the side. The 'small library of books' mentioned in the description is just a dozen or so old books on the window sill but if you wanted to read one you'd need to brush off the cobwebs and dirt first. Don't move the side table by the settee either unless you are happy looking at all the cobwebs and dirt around the legs. Maybe this is considered quaint for an old cottage but quaint and clean are not exclusive. Great pity really as this could be a very nice cottage if only the owners cared about it. For a cottage at this price you expect cleanliness, decent equipment and some thought into making the place as comfortable and convenient as possible but, sadly, this is all lacking. Still there's that great view from the side window but don't bother looking out of the front window as that just overlooks the rubbish bins. The owners can't even be bothered to put the bins round the corner out of sight."

"A beautiful old cottage nestled in a valley a mile or so west of Little Langdale. As such, it is remote but if you like to be away from a town, this is perfect with loads of hiking from the front door. Very comfortable with wood burning stove to help keep room warm. Kitchen did lack a few basic amenities - kitchen foil, washing up liquid, kitchen tools and such. But, all appliances worked, fridge, 4 burner stove and wahing machine and dishwasher. 4 people might be a bit cramped, but for 2 of us, it was fine and bed very comfortable."

"A very nice in-character restoration in which we had a very pleasant stay. Be prepared to duck under the beam over the inglenook fireplace - you will learn, but then you'll forget again! The owner was very helpful when needed. No mobile signal for miles, but that could be a blessing. A surprising amount of walkers and passing traffic for such a remote road, but that was a reflection of a very fortunate week weatherwise. Great countryside and, from the guestbook, we won't be the last planning to return there."

"The cottage was well equipped and in a beautiful location, but staying in the winter, my friend and I found it very cold. The storage heater in the living area was totally ineffecient and as we had paid the extra fuel supplement of ?20 for 3 days, we felt we should have been warmer. Also it was difficult to buy logs for the wood burner as only one fire's worth of logs were left by the owner."

"although we know the lakes well fell foot cottage was a wonderful homely cottage full of history, it is right beside the start of the wrynose/hard knot pass so single line traffic outside the windows but not a problem it all added to the atmosphere especially with THE LANGDALE PIKES in full view, lots of walks right from the door, it is very rural and picturesque away from everything. We would certainly stay there again, the owners live next door & are both very friendly & helpful the cottage has everything you need"

"Lovely comfortable and well appointed cottage but not as quiet as we had hoped as there was a surpringly rather busy road immediately outside. Great for walking directly from the cottage and within a mile or so there was a delightful pub but one would need a torch to get back after dark."
