Nestled in the rolling farmland of Coldingham Bay, the village of Coldingham itself enjoys great views over the sheltered golden beaches of the Berwickshire coastline. With excellent local surfing and canoeing facilities, the settlement also offers a wide choice of local shops, pubs and restaurants. Only three miles away is the sleepy fishing village of St. Abbs, a picturesque location with a well-known nature reserve, renowned for its large variety of birds and marine life. Fishing and diving excursions can be purchased here and SCUBA divers come from all over the world to explore the local waters. For those who would rather spend their time on dry land, the area also has a wide selection of riding, golfing and walking opportunities, as well as the shops and attractions of the nearby Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

"Just back from a fantastic week staying at Meadow Lodge. We arrived meeting the owners who greeted us with a warm welcome and showed us around the Lodge. The Lodge itself amazed us as it was better than the photos on Sykes Cottages website. The location is absolutely lovely, situated nicely behind a wooded area with beautiful views. Warm comfy beds, well equipt with a cosy log burner just perfect for those autumn evenings!"

"We stayed in the lodge for our holiday on 19th August for a week and we had beautiful weather most of the days we were there. We loved Coldingham beach and hired a wetsuit and body board for our daughter and she was in the sea for about 3 hours absolutely loved it and the man at the surf shop was really friendly and it was good value for money. I would highly recommend Eyemouth too have a nice swimming pool there and good places to eat. We also took a trip to Berwick upon Tweed which has lots to offer and thoroughly recommend a trip to Cafe Crema there do lovely all day breakfasts. The only thing that we would have liked in the lodge was wifi as we took our autistic son and he likes to go on his laptop as he gets quite anxious and agitated sometimes so the laptop would have helped while we were there. But we really didn't want to come home it was a nice relaxed holiday for us all."

"We had a wonderful stay at Meadow Lodge, the weather was less than ideal but the lodge with its wood burning stove, washing machine and tumble dryer meant it did not matter!! A wonderful home from home, cosy lodge with gorgeous gardens with space for children to play. Our little boy was 4 and with prior arrangement from the owner was allowed to stay in the lodge and really enjoyed the gardens and immediate surrounding areas. The lodge was clean and well maintained with everything you could possibly need and the gardens also were well maintained with beautiful views. The lodge feels like it is in the middle of no where but has easy access to routes around the area for visiting nearby attractions."

"We had a very good week during our stay at Meadow Lodge. It's set in a lovely location, in the grounds of Press Castle, and is a quiet and peaceful retreat. Certainly a great place to go if you want to get away from it all. The lodge is small, anymore than three people you'd be struggling for space, but for a getaway for a couple it's ideal. We had a really comfortable king size bed, although the pillows were slightly too 'squashy' for us - bring your own if you suffer bad necks! The bedroom isn't big, and is taken up largely by the bed, but it's a nice room and a king size bed on holiday is a huge bonus! There's one room for the lounge/kitchen diner but it's a nice lounge with lovely views of the fields outside (look out for the rabbits running around in the field). Seeing the sheep opposite each morning was really nice too. There's a sign on the way down to the lodge saying look out for red squirrels, but we didn't see one and we are led to believe sightings have been much rarer since a nearby wind farm was erected - quite sad! The kitchen is small but has all you need. The bathroom was a little disappointing, slightly dated and it's almost impossible to control the temperature of the water of the shower. Freezing or too hot! The bath is also small and not one to stretch out in, unless you're below five foot four. Another good thing about the lodge is it felt like it was a 10-20 minute drive to plenty of what we wanted to do (visiting country houses/castles/walks/beach) All in all though, it's a place we enjoyed staying in, and while we probably wouldn't return to this lodge, if you need a quiet holiday it's a good place to stay. We were a little disappointed only one toilet roll was provided, and just two dishwasher tablets. The television is also really small (these days you can pick up a huge television for cheap!) and if you're looking for WiFi, it doesn't have it here. The sofa's are also rather uncomfortable, quite small and difficult to relax in. There's also plenty of do's and don't signs around the lodge. Shouldn't these be confined to the admittedly excellent information pack in the lodge? People come here to relax! Thanks for a really nice stay, but some small adjustments would make this lodge even better!"

"My wife and I stayed here with our two children for a week in August. This part of the country seems remarkably quiet to Londoners used to family holidays in the south-west, Wales or Cumbria. Yet the coastline is stunning (especially around St. Abbs Head), the countryside inland is beautiful and there is a considerable choice of sites to visit and things to do within an hour's drive of Meadow Lodge; in short, this is an undeservedly under-visited area. The accommodation itself is maintained to a high standard. We were met by the friendly and helpful owners on arrival, who showed us around and presented us with a voluminous and highly useful folder packed with information about the local area and borders region. Although the lodge is not especially large (and after a few nights our teenage daughter moved her mattress into the living room to avoid sharing the second bedroom with her younger brother), the high ceilings and considerable amount of natural light entering the building made it feel more spacious than it is. The kitchen area is well laid out and provision of crockery, glassware and utensils is to a higher standard than many similar places that we have stayed in during previous holidays. Everything was clean and tidy on arrival, and there were plenty (perhaps one or two too many?) of notices on the walls to explain how to deal with recycling waste and other similarly prosaic matters. In short, this is a peaceful, well presented base from which to explore the attractions of the eastern borders region. One would not want to be cooped up indoors for too long, at least with active youngsters, but even if the weather is rubbish there is plenty to see and do in the area (Edinburgh is barely an hour's drive away). Highly recommended."

"We stayed at Meadow lodge for 1 week, although due to the extremely nice weather I am sad to admit we were out most days enjoying the beautiful surrounding beach,s The lodge is modern, fresh and up to date, it does lack sky TV, but has freeview and a DVD player, plenty of board games and cards are left by the owner, whom also leaves a detailed visitors pack. tea, milk and sugar. The shower took some getting to grips with and even on number 1 was extremely hot much to hot for kids but it does have a bath. The main bedroom has a huge comfy kingsize bed, which does compromise bedroom space, for dressing, but hey I used the living room as with the blinds down and being so isolated no one can see you We had a deer wake us early one morning as it decided to walk along the decking and eat the plants. there is a washing machine and rotary clothes line, the lodge is fully equipped the beds and furniture very comfy far away from the maddening crowd yet only a 5 minute drive to beautiful beach,s I would 100% book again"

"a friendly welcome from the owners and a comprehensive intro to the well equiped lodge. the lodge had everything we wanted and it is well situated for touring the area with lots to do in wet and dry weather. we liked the peaceful setting and the views from the lodge and we well may make a return visit in a year or so. the only slight snag was that we never got to grips with the storage heaters which seemed determined never to produce any heat"

"A lovely lodge furnished and decorated to a high standard. Comfortable and clean. A little isolated (need to travel by car to get anywhere local) but some lovely places nearby - St abbs and Eyemouth. Great walking along the cliffs."

"The owners met us upon arrival to greet us and were very welcoming. The cottage is beautifully situated and very private. Our view over looked the countryside and we could watch the bunnies, pheasants, deer and red squirrels playing every day. Although it was small, it was very well equipped and cozy. We were especially impressed with how well the kitchen was equipped. The nice high ceiling in the living room made it seem larger. It was also very clean and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the area and surrounding towns. Everyone was friendly, helpful and pleasant."
