Broadwoodkelly is a typical and unspoilt Devon village. Its history can be traced back to an entry in the Domesday Book and it was the site of many historic events during the Wars of the Roses. In the village-centre is a Grade I-listed church that dates back to the 13th Century, with a 15th Century nave. Interesting features of this church include the wagon roof in the porch and another in the nave. The organ that is still used today originally came from Westminster Abbey in 1873. Just down the road is the larger neighbouring village of Winkleigh, which also remains unspoilt and also has some interesting history to be discovered; just outside the village is a now-disused World War II airfield, which played an important role in dropping secret agents behind enemy lines and other secret missions. The old runways and buildings are now only just visible. In addition, the area has a number of stately homes and National Trust properties to discover. The wild beauty of Dartmoor is a short drive away, as is the rugged Devon coastline.

"The accomodation was well appointed and so comfortable with all the mod cons and gadgets available - a real home from home. With a beautiful informal garden/lake/smallholding setting, an animal lovers paradise with horses, dogs, cats, chickens and ducks! The hosts couldn't do enough for us, right from the amazing welcome at the start of our stay through to the end. We would definitely recommend Pheasant's Roost to anyone. It was a fantastic stay & so peaceful too!"

"Very relaxed place to stay and we were greeted with tea and biscuits which was lovely!! The inside was very open plan but thankfully we all got on well enough for that to work. The kitchen had everything and you knew that if there was anything you needed (or forgot) that you could just ask! Easy directions to local supermarkets were very helpful and the huge pile of leaflets to local places of interest was fantastic, we even added to it! We visited Dartmoor the most which was about a 50 minute drive away. The fire really does kick out heat making upstairs very hot which is great for drying anything. The most important thing was that our dog (a 2 year old boxer) had a wonderful time."

"We stayed in June09 and actually stayed for more than orignal week booked. The property, surroundings and owners were great and we had a great time. Only down sides for us were firstly location which meant driving for approx 40 mins to get to beach. We knew this when we booked, but didn't get an appreciation of distance until we were driving every day to go somewhere. Having said that coastal properties which didn't look nearly as nice were nearly twice the cost of this lovely place. The second issue we had was with the tap water. It came out orange, which meant we needed to use water filter (provided by the owner) before drinking and when washing clothes it stained some orangy brown. aside from the above we spent a great ten days and our daughters (2yrs and 9 months) loved it. especially all the ducks, horses etc."
