Formerly known as Port Dinorwic, Y Felinheli is situated on the beautiful Menai Straits between the historic town of Caernarfon and the cathedral city of Bangor. This lovely harbour town is home to a small, established yachting marina with an interesting lock, which allows boats to enter or leave before cruising down the Straits to the open sea. There is also a wide selection of amenities in the village as well as pubs, restaurants, shops and a hotel, whilst just two miles away is an award-winning five-star restaurant for something a little more special. The landscape of this pretty region is incredibly diverse and offers the stunning mountain of Snowdonia, the beautiful Lleyn Peninsula, and the sandy beaches of the Isle of Anglesey – all of which are within easy driving distance.

"Stayed for a long weekend and the weather was good (albeit cold) - having breakfast looking out over the Menai Straights and Anglesey was superb - a well equipped cottage with plenty of space and very quiet away from all the roads. Thoroughly recommended."

"Really enjoyed our short break in this lovely part of north Wales. Cottage was immaculate with plenty of space to relax. Would recommend a visit to Newborough beach and forest - lots of space to explore. The Beacon Climbing Centre is also well worth a visit."

"My father and I booked a weeks holiday at Penrallt Cottage and we fell in love with the cottage as soon as we arrived. The weather was fine and the views across the Menai Strait were fantastic. The cottage had everything that we needed for a relaxing week's holiday. We met Osian the owner who was very polite and friendly and gave us useful advice on nearby attractions, eateries etc. Penrallt is situated ideally for a base to explore and enjoy North Wales and Anglesey. The weather did turn colder/wetter towards the end of the week, then it was the end of September/beginning of October and it never stopped us getting out and about. Only disappointment was getting on the steam train for the top of Snowdon in sunny weather, but by the time we reached the summit it was a complete white-out! We will just have to come back again! All in all a brilliant week in a lovely cottage in a beautiful country!"

"The owners are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The cottage is spacious, very clean with all the facilities to make your stay relaxing. The views are absolutely stunning and we had great weather too which was an added bonus. There is lots to do in the area (even in March). We were sorry to leave."

"A perfect place to stay: - the cottage is very good and high-class equipped - it is very comfortable for 6 persons - the people who let the house are living beside. They are very friendly and cooperative if there is a question - the area around the cottage and the views are very lovely (the sunsets are sensational) - it is a good place to start activities as e.g. to Snowdon, Canaerfon, Bangor, Anglesey, Conwy, the Ffestiniog Railway - also the weather was ok - most of the time dry and sometimes a bit of sunshine. We had a nice week."

"The cottage was well-equipped, nicely-furnished and very comfortable. The lovely views over the Menai Straits were gorgeous and we had excellent weather to appreciate them fully. We enjoyed our holiday very much. Only 3 less-positive comments: The '5 mins downhill walk' was over-optimistic re. timing and it is pretty steep. (We are fit and regularly walk in the countryside but after doing the walk on the first evening we didn't repeat it.) Access by car involves negotiating a very sharp left turn. We coped but wouldn't recommend it for a nervous driver. The 'written directions' mention a 'sharp left turn' but I would add the word 'very' to emphasise that. We were disappointed at the 'selection of pubs,restaurants...' as there was only one pub within a short walking distance of the cottage and the meal we had there was very poor. Your description of Y Felinheli suggested a more thriving community with a good selection of eating places. We would have liked to have eaten out in the village more often."

"High quality, modern decor, very warm accommodation. Great views, very peaceful. Good location for visiting Angelsey and North Wales. Sharp narrow turning with bend, but not a problem. Owners next door and very helpful. Short circular walk can be done fron house."
